Normandy or Normanby?
We met Lord Normanby some years ago on Bedarra Island. Dcd now I believe.
His family sailed with Cook (well, maybe not all of them) & there are a number of Islands,Rivers etc bearing their name in the North of Oz.
My Geezer. NB. When a POW he taught Braille to banged up POWs .

A story. In conversation he mentioned the size of his digs & swambo mentioned this to someone who knew him from the UK & commented it woud have been a bugger to heat in Yorkshire, & was quietly told that he owned a couple of Coal Mines.
We stumbled across an Australian War Grave in the local cemetery (in Yorkshire) & for some years wondered about it as you do. It just seemed a bit odd.
After meeting him we asked about it. Turns out his Nephew/Cousin (?) was in Australia when WW1 was declared & signed up with the Australian Army. He was killed in France & they had his remains taken back to the UK where he was interred by the wall of the church where we saw his grave. A Mystery no more.
Apologies Dave for going off topic.
