WOKE...do you use this word incorrectly....or others?

I was reading an article where the author used the word woke 3 times in 2 sentences.

It appears to be trendy to use this word but not to do with sleep periods.

I could not understand what the author was actually saying and in fact had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the meaning of the word.

So for those of you , who , like me , get really ****ed off when people use words so incorrectly , here is the true definition of the word.

...*woke*...alert to racial prejudice and discrimination....

it originated out of African/American english and came to promenance out of the Black Lives Matter Movement....accepted into dictionary space in 2014.

a few years ago Paul Keating , a linguistical master , described someone as being recalcitrant and the next thing , people were using the word everywhere especially the rugby league commentators.....but I haven't heard them call a player woke yet.....probably because I fall asleep to their incessant babble

are there any incorrect word usages that **** you off?

    "Medium strip" instead of "Median".

"Of" in place of "Have" is an absolute travesty.

    Absolutley!

The word "absolutely" is the one that really pees me off. It's used everywhere for anything by anyone especially stupid pollies. I blame a local car dealer here in Perth ( just over the Causeway in Vic Park) who used it in his adverts some years ago and its use has really taken off.
Really ****es me off to hear it used in such a way that makes its use absolutely stupid. Absolutely it does.....

As with any word that is as laden as "woke" it has become an almost derogatory term for extreme leftists types as well.

Fascinating how that goes. I wonder also when we should allow "new" words into a dictionary since this word will most likely not last a decade?

I’ve noticed many times in US writings the use of “then” instead of “than” and vice versa. It often completely changes the meaning of a sentence, e.g., “I’d rather get a fine then lose my licence.” Yes, I’ve seen that written.

Again Americans saying “drug” instead of “dragged”, “grinded” instead of “ground” as in “I grinded the coffee”.

And I always wonder what the term 'Skull dragged' says, that dragged doesn't say. While it may sound very tough to the ignorant, it doesn't make sense.
