    European.

If European in my bathroom, you're in strife. I've got a toilet for that. The term 'Bathroom' as a meaning for 'Toilet' really ****s me! It's meaningless.

The shed I designed came from this mob:

Steeline Sheds & Garages | Steeline Rural & Commercial | Steeline Australia

Custom (my) design, engineered in house, I just put it up.............ain't small.

All the C section, all the purlins were rolled and hole punched in Corio. Mega mechanno set.

Gutters and flashings.........again all custom........all done in Geelong, using Bluescope steel.

    cheers, DL

It comes from the fact that the 'toilet' was outside the house, the bathroom was originally just that, a bathroom.

I lived in a 1930's house in the UK where there was still an outside toilet (on the back of the house) but there was now a toilet in the bathroom. This would have been common as the idea of having the toilet inside the house became more acceptable. The term bathroom was kept even though there was now a toilet in there as well.

I think it started in Oz from people hearing the term on American TV shows. I don't recall hearing it used here until the late 90s, perhaps and that was from a SIL, who is very susceptible to U.S. jargon and pronunciation. (Which annoys me no end!)

Could be a tad confusing when one has visitors & the visitor ask the location of the bathroom but does not want to wash their hands but have a crap, so the owner then finds when visitors have departed that a steaming brown curly one has been left in the basin complete with used Paper..

More confusing is having one of those shop bought little signs on the door stating "Here tis."

What, the garage, the chook house, Kitchen, WOT?

    Could happen imho.

I must be posh having two dunnies or being an overpaid Futballer.

When I was born we lived in a house shared with other families. We had a room downstairs and a bedroom upstairs. The toilet was outside as was the tap. Funny how I still remember it.

Spud, it couldn't have been much fun when having a quiet bath when some one comes in & drop his Daks whilst ignoring your presence & lets off a resounding, cheek vibrating fart or stubs their fag end out in one's bath water.
