    What was that courier/freight company?

Seeking some input from the brains trust here…

Back in the early ‘80s (I think) there was a courier/freight company with what I thought were very distinctive trucks. From memory their fleet were mostly Bedford J-series trucks painted all red, with white decals on them. Frustratingly, I can’t remember the name of the company, other than that it was “……. Bird”. They weren’t Australia Post/PMG trucks, but they were a similar colour…

I don’t need to know the name for any reason other than that it’s been bugging me that I can’t remember. Hopefully someone has a better memory than me, and can fill in the gap above…knowing the diversity in the forum I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two members worked for them. Thanks in advance What was that courier/freight company?.

Hope you managed to remember, otherwise my post will bump this up the thread table for a resolution, before it starts bugging me!

Thanks RANDLOVER, no resolution as yet. To jog people’s memory here is a still pic that piqued my curiosity, from the film clip for Mark Seymour Last Ditch Cabaret, it only flashes on for a second, just long enough to grab a screenshot. You can just see the “…bird”.

I thought someone on here would resolve it in a matter of minutes, but either my description is really poor or it could just be that nobody remembers…
    I still wait in hope.

    Cheers, Matt

The only one I can think of is F.H. Stephens, but I think they were gone before the '80s.
They started about a hundred years ago, specialising in Melbourne/Tasmania, later branching into customs agency.
By the early 70s they were a part of Mayne Nicolass, but still using the Stephens' name and livery, which was red with white or yellow songwriting.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

That seems reasonable - is it a blind guess or do you actually remember a company with that name? I can’t find anything on google under this name to confirm, but it was a long time ago they were around. I always thought their trucks were very distinctive, which is probably why I (sort of) remember them!

Just a guess as I've never lived in Melbourne.

Perhaps a take on Raynbird, too. It is not an uncommon name.

The Rain Bird irrigation co. has a very similar logo, I'm not sure if they used before the courier company.
