    National Park - drone flying

Serious question, does anybody know, or heard of a fine being applied to a person who posts up a video online showing footage taken in a National Park? There seems to be any amount of video's, some with tens of thousands of views and they are doing it more than once. The footage is spectacular, especially around Blue rag, Bluff hut, Billy goat etc. Its been revealed the recent Wonnangatta murders may have been over a drone flying there.
Am I being the only one checking my locality before flying?

    Hi,
"Hey look at this footage I found on an sd card someone dropped by the track up to Hairy Mountain."

I think that is how it goes.

    Cheers

The metadata will point the finger easily enough..flight details, GPS, time of flight & full owner details.
I just wonder if Parks Vic actually chase the owners - there must be a bob in it.
I just found this link, but it could be a greenie scare tactic.

Did You Know RPAS/Drones are Prohibited in ALL Parks Victoria Managed Land?

There are a number of apps, such as OpenSky, that are approved by CASA for checking. So far, mine has never said no, except when I tried it near Lilydale Airport just to see. Admittedly, I have not been to Blue Rag etc since I got it.

I don't recall that the rules I learned when getting the "licence" precluded flying in Nat Parks except when the rules about flying over people, or over emergency or public safety operations, or line of sight took precedence. Did I miss something? Serious question.

The case of the murders of Mrs Clay and Mr Hill is before the courts now. Whatever that couple was doing, it's no excuse for Mr Lynne's alleged actions. Yes, I know you weren't saying it was.

Never heard of anyone getting fined for pretty much any drone activity apart from the time a local near me flew his drone to Bunnings and had a mate attached snag to it and he flew it home and ate it - then posted the video online and bragged about it.

I have State Park footage up on my Youtube channel but not sure if that's in the same boat.

Re metadata showing owner etc - only if it's a registered drone - plenty aren't.

Not allowed to fly them across the road from me in a city park - Not allowed motor bikes or firearms I'd need more hands to count the times I have seem or heard all three!

I would wonder if Parks has the technical training to check meta data!

Agreed - and they barely have the personnel to do achieve the day to day they need to do - I would think enforcement of someone taking some footage of the scenery would be very low on their priority list.

    Cheers

I like Police so not meant to be a sledge!

VIC Police are one in short supply and mostly poorly equipped in the IT area. Local Police had the only Windows 95 OS computer I have seen in the last 10 years!!!

Many report to police busy with high level crimes. drugs, domestic violence ...... sees priority jobs done if possible and minor thefts and .... not even looked at unless you provide it to them on a platter.

It might be a little like the photography bans at schools? Some rulz exists to be used only IF its needed

Back on or Off topic. I might like a drone to give an Arial view for a few km around my boat. Spotting tuna of course!

Flying in wind and a long way off shore trying to recover to a smallish moving boat, salt water and salty air have yet to be overcome

Sure it might work and sure my Ships Diver recovery skills might help yet not risking my cash on one yet

Vic Police - don't get me started and this should probably go to Current Affairs - It's not just minor thefts - we've had a few trailer mounted gens knocked off in recent months - all with GPS in them so we knew exactly where they ended up - even this isn't enough to get the Police to site in any reasonable time frame - last one we had the GPS location, went to site and had a visual of it in a back yard - Was overnight and into the next morning before anyone attended - only then after we said we'd recover it ourselves and deal with the criminals as we saw fit - that saw them threaten us with charges, not the thieves, but it was the only was we got any action.
