I would have been around 9 or 10 when my family stayed at Bruny Island (Tas) for a holiday. We visited the Lighthouse at the Sthn end and must have got there late arvo.
It was manned at that time and the lighthouse keeper invited Dad, mum, my sister and I up to the lighthouse and watch him light the lamp.
We were bundled in to what I realised many years later when I became an LR fanatic was a SWB Series 2 and he drove us up a rough road/track from his house about 1/2 klm from the lighthouse.
I was a bit concerned and felt as if I was about 20ft up in the air as I'd never been in such a "high" vehicle before! To make matters worse, the track went quite close to the cliff face.....
Anyway, we climbed the stairs and the 'keeper let me light the kero lamp, which I realised much later, was quite a big deal.
We got back down the hill safely and I lived to tell the tale.
