A mate hit a dead roo doing that, rolled a loaded XF Falcon Panel Van,they were lucky to walk away.

That happened at night in the middle of no where north of Marlborough,on his way to Hay Point for work.

I was supposed to go,but the apprentice went instead.

By the time we got to the van,the next day, in the towies yard, lowlifes had stolen everything that was left in it.
They even pinched the radio out of the dash.

    Hello All,

No, not slip streaming - I follow the 3 to 5 second gap rule especially during wet weather, or more time depending on road conditions and rain intensity. As per the New South Wales 3 second rule and the attached image was accessed 6th of July 2023 from, Safe stopping distance | NSW Government

The technique is especially handy when the car in front of you has a tree sitting in their boot - or am I misinterpreting the diagram?

    Kind regards
    Lionel

I always close all outside inputs when coming upon a stock carrier.

I did once have a chicken get free of its surroundings and bounce off the bonnet - that was an odd one.
The was the highly publicised story of the cow that managed to clamber its way off the top floor of a cattle truck on the Monash freeway one day. Wasn’t pretty.

I regularly do the run from here to Arrawarra, just North of Coffs, very often at night. All dual lanes.

Sitting on an actual,by the GPS of 105Km/hr,B Doubles often slowly creep past.Down hills, they fly past.

Sitting on an actual pf 110Km/hr,which is the limit for most of the trip,i go past them.
The Scania I drove wouldn’t even pull the dollar. 730hp loaded with pillows and the damn thing would just sit on 99.

Week before Christmas, Lionel. I’d give him more than three seconds.

Never seen it in Australia but here on motorways (freeways) they will
Paint a row of chevrons on the road. There will be a sign saying to keep 2 chevrons from the car in front. Think this works well is it is a ‘real’ reference that even the more challenged drivers can understand

We have the chevrons in Queensland. I think it's three chevrons between vehicles.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

20 years ago they put those on the Western highway coming from Ballarat. I thought they were a brilliant idea. If you look closely you can still the faded remnants in a few places, as it seems VicRoads didn't share my opinion. Can't say I'm surprised, they don't share my opinions on anything much.

    Little lost, were you?

Nothing wrong with following a truck as long as you are courteous with your lights. Having someone constantly in the mirrors can be trying.

One warning: moons ago I was a passenger in a car on the old Hume. The canvas tarped semi (shows just how many moons) in front lost his spare wheel from under the trailer. By the time the car's driver saw it he'd hit it. At 60 MPH it destroyed the entire front end of the HK Holden. Slipstreaming can have consequences....
    Hello Tins,

I flew down from Bundaberg to Sydney and grabbed a hire car. En route to Wagga Wagga to attend a conference for work I drove to Goulburn to visit family - I grew up in Goulburn. Then proceeded to Wagga Wagga via the Hume Highway onto to the Stuart Highway. I came back via Temora to visit my grandmother and uncle. I was born in Temora. After the visit to the ancestral home, I drove back to Sydney airport and then caught some planes to get back home to Bundaberg. I do not care to remember how long ago that trip was made! The count back involves a series of decades.

    Kind regards
    Lionel
