Thread: Public holiday.

No way should there be a public holiday. Not taking away from what they have achieved. We (Australia) cannot afford it, business cannot afford it, just need to look at the Public Days we already have & the number of businesses that now work. These players are just doing their job & are well paid I presume by us taxpayers to do this job, so why should we out of pocket anymore.
Sorry if my views may not align with others but as am ex business owner there are already too many public holidays which is enormous cost to the Australian economy.

While there is a lot of media hype around the world cup, I don't know too many people who are actually following it besides the media contingent. Sure there is a large round ball fan base here but not even close to AFL here in Melbourne or NRL in Sydney. Here at work I know of 1 person (out of around 25) that know what's going on with it - they bring it up every day and we all look blankly at him and he gets back in his box.

Wrong time to be asking Businesses to take another hit on top of everything else that's going on at the moment. A lot are doing it tough as prices for everything and everyone skyrocket - and existing contracts have to be honored even if costs exceed revenue now - this is why so many builders are going tits up, but the scenario extends far beyond that industry.

No public holiday for any sporting (or should I say "Betting/gambling" events) IMO.

Be better than the Vic AFL grand final parade one here in Vic that only several thousand get to What am I saying.

That was only the quarter final. Imagine the size of the viewing audience if they can beat England to make it to the final.

Who cares who’s watching? If public holidays are to be granted based upon TV audiences then nearly every AFL match would get one. Australia regularly wins international sporting events. If we have holidays based on that business might as well shut down.

My comment about the number of people viewing should not be read as an argument for a public holiday.

It was nothing more than a response to the implication in the bit that I quoted that the public were not interested in the World Cup.
