What is your favourite Chill-out music?

    Hello All,

I am most probably not alone in occasionally needing to slow the pace of life down a bit and seeking out some mellow songs to just chill-out for a while. Here are some of the songs I turn to upon these occasions.

What would some of your mellow friends be?

The following does not map out a top listing - the grouping is pretty random and chosen to meet the specific mood at the time ... All songs were accessed on the 27th of September 2023 via YouTube sources

Sade - Why can't we live Together
    Sade - Why can't we live Together ? - Montreux Jazz Festival ( 1984 ) - YouTube

    Roxy Music - Jealous Guy
Roxy Music - Jealous Guy - YouTube

The following song was very popular at the time it was released and it just seemed to receive way too much airplay. I subsequently lost contact with until I happened to come across it on YouTube. I can still not specify what it is about the song that I find allows it to fit into this grouping of songs. However, it somehow just does... Marcy Playground - Sex And Candy Marcy Playground - Sex And Candy (Official Music Video) - YouTube

Then, of course there is this song ... Chicago - Hard To Say I'm Sorry
Chicago - Hard To Say I'm Sorry (Official Music Video) - YouTube

A step down a frequently trodden path ... Eagles - I Can't Tell You Why
    Eagles - I Can't Tell You Why [w/ lyrics] - YouTube

    I Got A Name - Jim Croce

Then to wrap things up ... Keith Whitley - When You Say Nothing at All

    Have a good night folks.

Nope ... I could not leave this one out of the mix ... Roberta Flack - First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

I am really signing out for the night now ... see ya!

    ================================================== ==

Look, I really did sign out and then I found this one and I had to sign back in .. .
Carole King - Will You Love Me Tomorrow?

Time for some discipline, Lionel ... and before it gets to midnight...

    =================================================

Okay, so how did I really finish up the day? By returning to this one ... it holds a lot of significance to me and it is a dedication to my wife ... The song is by ...

I've got you under my skin ONLY by the great fAs (Francis Albert Sinatra) of course. A lot of his music actually. (something stupid, born free, fly me to the moon, come fly with me, that's life)

Also, sade, nice choice. (smooth operator, sweetest taboo)

    Tasmin Archer (sleeping satellite)

I like some of Lana del Rey's music from her more moody period. (born to die, ride, ultraviolence, high by the beach, young and beautiful, etc.)

    Mozarts requiem

Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash (girl from the north country)

Chi Coltrane (you were my friend)

Bangles (going down to liverpool, eternal flame)

    Lykke Li (unrequited love)

    Clint mansell (Lux Aeterna)

    Jennifer Warnes (somewhere, somebody)

Al green (how can you mend a broken heart)

Dido (white flag, here with me)

    Adele (someone like you)

Norah Jones (come away with me, don't know why, creepin in)

    James Blunt (goodbye my lover)

London Grammar (Hey now, strong, wasting my young years)

I realize some songs are a bit to up beat for some to be mellow but eh. In any case, the list is endless since:

John Miles (music was my first love)

    Hello P,

Thank you for posting such an extensive list of your go to 'mellow' tunes. Each of us are different and what works for one person as their song to chill-out to may not be effective for someone else. It is about what works for you.

One of Adele's video clips provides a great example of capturing the influence of bass not vibrations. Where the drummer playing in an alcove supposedly is captured by the floor covered with glasses filled with water start to vibrate. The same bass vibrations are transmitted via speakers into our bodies and this in turn can either soothe or excite our neural system. Depending upon the beat of the music being played. Okay - too technical and probably does not fit in with this post. However, it is one of my 'go to' examples of demonstrating the effect of bass tones to people. Hello All,

Here is another example of 'mellow' and it is from an Australian band ...Accessed 28th September 2023 from. Mondo Rock - State of the Heart Mondo Rock - State of the Heart (1981) - YouTube

There are a lot of lyrics in this song that I was personally experiencing when the song was first released. It was my first 'serious' relationship. She was a high school teacher and I was an assistant pastry cook. Yes, I went through a range of jobs before I worked in horticulture and found my chosen vocation. Anyway, it frequently worked out that with our different working hours ... we only 'had from six until seven (pm) to work things out' ... No, we did not manage to do so. Some of the other lyrics are also so spot on; however, I will not elaborate on them...

Well, this song explains pretty well what State of the Heart I was left in . Yep I fell pretty hard and ... listen to the lyrics... Keith Hampshire - First Cut Is The Deepest 1973 Keith Hampshire - First Cut Is The Deepest - YouTube ... Accessed 28th September 2023.
