Kookynet - the French world tourers are HERE!

I've just received an email back from Robert & Martine - the French couple who are coming to Aus to tour in their Land Rover and assimilate our local cuisine and culture into their own.... well... into their website (www.kookynet.net). They are very appreciative of the enthusiasm shown by ourselves on AULRO, and can't wait to get here. They've asked me to be their relay to you guys for a while, which I'm more than happy to be!

    Progress:

The ship has left Dubai with their vehicle and goods on board. They've had to scrub the Landy and all their other travelling equipment with a toothbrush to satisfy our rather stringent import regulations. It's going via Malaysia and will arrive in Perth on or around September 11th. They're staying behind in Dubai and will fly over a couple of days before-hand to meet the Landy for customs clearance.

Good news - they have been granted a 12 month visa, so can get in a lot of the country while they are here.

One think they'll need is some contact with appropriate members of the media. I'm thinking some of the morning breakfast shows, ACA, TT, 4WDTV, the magazines (4X4M, etc). Please feel free to suggest others - especially if you know anyone within the media who might be able to help. Remember that their are two aspects to their travels that will interest people - the cooking component as well as the 4WD adventure.

Personally, I can't wait until they get to the east coast and come fishing for trout at our place. It'd be great to have them here for the Land Rover 60th celebrations.

    Cheers
    Chris

You're relatively new here DD, so you may not know that this trip has been on the cards here for quite a while, and there are plenty of people excited and willing to take these guys for trips around their local countryside when they pass by their area. Robert is English, Martine is French, and they've been travelling the world and making friends in their Defender for quite some time. What they are doing is what some people call a life ambition - I for one would love to be able to do what they are. Why don't you firstly go and have a look at their website before you put up comments like yours? Go and have a look at this thread, and judge for yourself what reaction this trip is geeting from people right here on AULRO:

Your experiences in France are of no relevance to this thread.

I am a sponsor as well. The change in forum format had not carried that notification across, that's all. I've never seen that displaying it to everyone is particularly important - or I would have let Inc. know.

I'm not asking anyone to "get wet" over it, but as Aussies we are seen as a friendly bunch - and as such are well worth shipping a car half way around the world to visit. The least we can do is show some comeraderie to fellow Land Rover enthusiasts and their nationality has nothing to do with it. Freedom of speech is a given, but all you've managed to do is show that you aren't a real friendly person - that's all. I can't imagine what this couple will think of us as a group when they read this post. Pity. All I was asking for was a few civil answers, not an attack - whether you are entitled to it or not.

I was p1ssing be the doer and herd a foot and two sh1ts es everywoon alwhite?

I envy what they are doing, personally I don't care if they're French, English, Dutch or Vulcan (I wonder how many Vulcans were on the Census?) I also have had indifferent experiences in foreign lands, O.K. Bankstown, but you can't tarnish everyone with the same brush (the hairs would wear out much before your done) I will welcome them, and envy them as the pass through my area. DD you are entitled to your opinion, just not the right place to express it mate. We all have a bit of the green eyed monster brewing occationally just don't lower the theme of the forum for the members excited about there visit.

I'll make the post I was going to this morning - just before my ISP went down for half a day over all NSW and Vic.

Can I suggest they contact the ABC local radio - they have local offices all over Australia, and could pass them on from one area to another. I think this is the sort of thing that they would be interested in. Note that as well as local interest the ABC does a number of cooking programmes and publishes a cooking magazine.
People often think only of TV and forget that there are a lot more local radio programmes than there are TV programmes. ABC local radio usually has a local breakfast programme, merging to a somewhat larger area for later in the morning and going statewide for the afternoon, with the evening and overnight nationwide. One nationwide programme that could be worth following up is "Australia all Over" on Sunday morning.
I am on first name terms with the bloke who does the breakfast programme from Dubbo, and will talk to him later in the week, but intial contact should be with Perth.

Thanks John - I've conveyed your message, and they are very keen to follow up on your suggestion. I suppose that if I were to contact the Sydney office of the ABC in Pyrmont (2 minutes up the road from work) they might put me straight.

    Once again - thanks!

Does anyone have really good contacts at a Land Rover dealer in Perth? They are looking for a dealer over there to sponsor them their 60,000km service in return for TV, radio or press co-exposure. Given that this is part of a world Land Rover tour - it wouldn't be hard to see the value for them, and they'd like to have the press take photos as they pick the car up after the service.

They are also looking for a good bull bar, new shocks, tyres and brake pads if anyone has any suggestions.

    Cheers
    Chris
