We get them from Element 14,probably slightly cheaper but we do order around 100 at a time, all different sizes, delivered free.

The metal cased ones from Kirby are extremely good quality, but cost more.

If we didn't care about our customers we wouldn't have had a business. Our business spread by word of mouth, 99% of the time. We would get a call from someone which we hadn't done business with, and they said that they got our contacts of a friend that we had done business with and they recommend us. This happen quite a lot. Heather

Exactly what I was alluding to Heather. You could go blue in the face trying to tell that to some operators. Their loss.

I can truly relate to that as our "One man business" (me + reliable Subbies as & when they were needed ) had many referrals from friends of the client usually from the Jewish Community. Not religion connected. just good personal service.
We were later appointed the first independent CARRIER Dealer in SA & up to then they didn't have any. It did take a few years for us to achieve the $ 1 million Sales but we were happy. Of course, others achieved that earlier but only because they had Sales people to push their products.

Correct me if I am wrong but good Kirby Capacitors were metal cased & Oil filled which kept them cooler but they, In my experience didn't blow out & were much more stable under fluctuating Conditions, & in fact I swapped the one supplied with our Outdoor Unit for an Oil Filled Capac. Has been in service now for 36 years & the Adelaide Hills are a bit notorious for varying Mains Voltage. Better these days but not always like that with falling trees & branches.

    EDITED.
Meant to add. On the original startup I fitted a 30/45 second start delay Timer & that must have saved the plant generally. over the years.
Having said that it will probably crap itself now.

We had some people asking if we where going to sell our business. Mario said no we are closing it. This was his baby that he worked so hard at it, to get the name of the business out there to compete against other companies.
And he didn't want some one else to have it as it was his name out there and his reputation. . Heather

Ditto. It can be quite stressful at times as you know, but if handled right it can set you up for many years.

Yes it did set us up, as we still had the boys at school. He had work place accident that stuffed his back and had to have an operation due spine injury. And he was told that he couldn't work again, by so many doctors that he had seen, as work cover sent him all over the place and they wanted one doctor to say he was fit to work but all the report say no. I have a VERY large file off all the letters here along with all xrays and scans. We fought the insurance company for 8 years until they come to the party to give Mario a pay out. So we set up the business this way so Mario could lie down when it got to much for him. He was the brains and tech person for the business. I did the invoices, packing, entering stock and taking parcels to post office.
So in a nut shell that is how the business ran for 14 years. Some times we got under each others skin being 24/7 together, but I would do it all over again if I could have him back. Heather

Ah yes, the olde Husband & Wife problem of both working from home & getting under each other's feet!!!

Still you seemed to manage that aspect ok.

My first contact with you & Mario was when you were having problems trying to install an Elevator for him & I had to have a chuckle when on arrival it wouldn't fit the hole in the concrete that some "expert"had measured for. I could see the humour but it was no joke for you both.
It just seemed unbelievable at the time & how the insurance crowd could be so inept.

Not oil now i don't think, but the best quality around, and as you know the majority of the gear we work on has to operate 24/7,no ifs, buts or maybes.
The less capacitor fires the better as well.

In the good old days,we hardly ever changed them,i can't even remember having them in the van. These days it is every day.
Smart us humans, another few steps backwards.....

Our business has been going 33 yrs this year.Commercial refrigeration, with a few AC jobs that we fall into.
Just myself and the wife for the first 15,with a few good subies, then we increased the staff to around 7.
The boys came along and after going in all sorts of directions, ended up in the business as well.

Staff became more of a pain,so back to us two and just the boys for the last 4 yrs,and an office worker. And a few good subies.
Mrs Scarry has always held the reins in the office, even though we have had other office workers, and have one now.
And she has had to do the domestic work, look after the kids, etc, while i was out working all hours, and at least 6 days a week.
Holidays were few and far between, but we used to squeeze the occasional one in here and there.

I would have given it away if it wasn't for the boys, they do most of the work these days,i help with invoicing, quoting, dropping off and picking up parts, etc.

No advertising for us,just word by mouth, and huge Govt contracts,(service, maintenance, repairs),some we have had for over 30yrs.

We are always flat out which i suppose is good.

We get under the skin of each other every now and then, but generally all get on well.
If i had my time over i would do it all again.
