Thread: When to call time...?

Moved house from Heathcote NSW to Bellmere Qld in early 2017. Cleaning the house out we had been in for 10yrs and thought we would be in for another 10 was a chore.
Filled 2 x 4m3 bins with ****. I cleaned out my shed and I applied some rules.
1. If I hadn't used it in the last year or 2 then I didn't need it.
2. If I was unlikely to use it in the next year or 2 then I didn't need it.
3. If I had forgotten I had it, I didn't need it.
4. All the "I'll use that for something one day" stuff. You probably won't.

Applied similar rules to the inside of the house as well. In particular clothing. Doesn't fit - gone. Don't wear it - gone.

After 5 years in Bellmere there came a separation, unfortunate but things happen. Yet another clean out.

Then this year daughter and partner and kids moved to Qld so we all moved in together. You guessed it another clean out.

Unless something has a particular sentimental value (and there will be plenty) you sometimes have to get ruthless with what stays and what goes.

Just remember, we are here for you if you need to bounce ideas like this and we are confident you will make all the right decisions, because these decisions affect nobody but you.

Thanks, Ray. That is pretty much where I am. Luckily for me I have all the really sentimental stuff already boxed. I did this to keep the gannets out of it.

As for the rest, there's a local hard rubbish collection next week... But, it's all the bloody tools! I suppose marketplace would help there. Have to keep some though.

Destination is the next thing. That day in Woodford it was all clear. But that fell over recently... Sigh.

Very likely. Thing is, while I like to think I'm the generous type, I am also a pensioner and could use the $$$. I will ponder.

Be careful as a lot of the time they keep them for a while and then sell them.

I attend a local Woodwork Club that's affiliated with the Men's Sheds and they often get tools & machinery from deceased estates. They kick around for a while then they tend to get moved on. Often sold to provide funds for the Club.

I'm a collector (hoarder ?) of tools. Since the Dandenong Trash & Treasure Market closed I haven't purchased anything and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.

I should be downsizing but I still have a lot of projects to finish, always interested in acquiring tools and happy to pay.

Saw a bloke today when I was visiting the local OKA and LR doctor ( bloke must be mad ). This fella used to be on the Council, and had a pie shop, great pies. Haven't seen him for a bit. Looking a bit crook. He used to have a 110 double cab ute, with a couple of mutts. Asked him if he had sold it. No way he says, I was up the Kimberley last year. Strewth, I thought he'd struggle getting into the thing. Asked him how old, he says 82. On his own. He knew Jan. I told him I have an OKA. He said "Well ****ing get in it and go". Glad I bumped into him.

66!!! I was four when you two tied the knot. Good innings mate. But you're not out yet.

But some days it feels like 266. Don't ask.
