SubscriberInteresting, hadn't realised that. One of the internet providers in Tokyo was the electricity retailer which provided internet through your house wiring: they had a filter to deal with the electricity itself and you could plug a modem into each power outlet.
Edit: and we use that for wifi in our house, since there were some issues getting wifi to the front rooms from the NBN connection.

QUOTE] It does sound tad weird but the Big Stobie Poles along the foothills carry equipment for ADSL TX to houses close in to the hills extracting their signal from Antennas in the City. On one road there are about one in five poles carrying ADSL gear.
Try getting someone to remove the defunct copper wiring from the pole to the house after switching to fibre to the building.
ISP doesn't want to touch it as it's not theirs. Telstra won't touch it because depending on who you speak to they no longer support and/or no longer own the copper network.
I suspect mine might unfortunately become detached from the building in the next storm. Pesky storms.

Is it so important that you would risk bodily injury for? It's a copper string that isn't going anywhere & one day the post will get Borers & fall down of it's own accord. Job done.
Are you still paying Line Rental for it (doubtful)? If so, stop paying, & some geezer will be knocking at your door with the words "Pay up or we'll disconnect you", & yes Job Done.
Well my suspicions were correct. It didn't even get to the point where a tech from Telstra came out.
Got a phone call today telling me that they stuffed up and I can't have wireless.
So I have to go satellite.
More time wasted. My ADSL was supposed to be shut down about 4 days ago, but it is still going.
Anyone got satellite internet or had experience with it?
This is all because of a few trees on my property. My next door neighbor has wireless.

The Skymuster NBN Satellite system is overcrowded, slow and basically ****. Not sure if they have increased the download limits these days but early on it was quite small unless off peak (After 11pm and before 5am). The Inlaws used to have it but gave up on it as a bad joke. They have 2 bars of 4G on a dongle they hang out on the verandah now (No signal inside) which gives them around 15MBPS speeds which was better than they got from Skymuster most of the time.
What's the phone signal like - might be easier on the 4G network or lashing out for Starlink.

How well do you know your neighbours that are 300 metres away on fibre? A wireless ethernet connection is easy to transmit that far and it would be fast and reliable - trees won't bother it much either. Tell them you'll go halvies on their Internet bill.
I've got a cheap small set and I've done over 2KM line of sight before with very low latency. With buildings etc in the way it is still good for several hundred metres and it's a low power model.
