    We're back

Have returned from Hay River trip, can't believe 6 weeks have gone by. Had a great time, will put some photos up when able. New car looks old now, have some serious cleaning to do. It lets in as much dust as the old Stage 1. Now has close to 9000 k's on it so is fairly well run in. Fuel consumption varied of course, but highway running returned between 9.5 to 10 litres per hundred, and you've got to be happy with that. Desert running due to easy route returned around 11 l/100. One of the accompanying Defenders blew a clutch which necessitated a long tow out of the desert, a large repair bill and a change of route for the remainder of the group.

Welcome back. What exactly happened to the clutch on the other Defender?

    we're back

Defender was towed from the end of the Hay River ( at Madigans camp 14) to Alice Springs via Jervois. Sadly by a Patrol!! which was part of our group ( 3 Defenders and one Patrol). Tow was 800km. As for the clutch...the clutch plate centre disintegrated. Nothing wrong with the plate itself but the centre being springs and the bits that hold them in just fell apart. Suttons in Alice Springs who evidently know LR's have never seen a plate do this before. The driver not a happy camper!!
As for our new Defender no problems at all...it went like a dream.

    we're back

    Bear with the computer illiterate.......

The only vehicle to have electric winch was the one with the clutch that **** itself. Funny that the battery should also happen to be flat once we fired the winch up :-) so a hand winch job of 3hrs for getting it over just the one dune was called for. Needless to say everyone got to have a go...even us girls
