Buying a Car and Transferring Funds

Looking a buying a car interstate and most likely heading down there to have a look next week. Funds are in the bank.

If I decide yes I want the car, what is the quickest way of transferring funds to the seller? So I dont have to come home and head back down when the funds clear. Used to have a bank cheque made out to cash ready to hand over but my bank no longer does cheques.

To transfer funds takes 3 working days so will either have to wait interstate or come back home and then back down. Oh value of the car is over the max daily withdrawal limit so will have to submit a form via email naming the seller etc - takes 3 days to approve and transfer.

    Cash is just too bulky.

So how are people quickly making funds available to the seller so you can grab the car on the spot?

    Thanks

Depending on the banks you both use, can the bank do an Osko (instant) transfer for you if it is over $5000?

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I'd never heard of an OSKO but it seems most banks provide it. Banks with PayID and Osko payments | Finder

Wish I could have done that with the OKA. $70K gave OSKO a fright. Had to go to a branch ( remember them? ) and arrange a direct transfer, but it went straight through. Things change all the time though, and mine was during all the lockdown malarkey.

With my credit union, I call them, ask them to increase the daily transfer limit temporarily (there are some security checks, approvals etc), I do the direct deposit / transfer online while they are on the phone, and then they set it back to the usual limit. Only took a few minutes last time I did this.

Unfortunately standard limits are too low - to increase on a temporary basis I need to apply to the bank and the limit only applies for one day.

Looks like Osko is the go - my old bank does not have it and I am closing their accounts - the new bank has it and will likely use that with a one day increase of withdrawal limit.

    Cheers

Westpac you can change your daily limit yourself up to $50K. And a quick call to thier call centre to any limit you like. Works fine including Osko.
