One problem with many drivers is the "Anyone going faster than me is speeding!" attitude.

having had a few I feel I should point out the fun i had in sydney one day driving the disco to pick up my wife from work...

Happily sitting on 45kph on parramatta road heading to sydney leaving a lesiurley 35-40 odd meters between me and the car in fron so i dint have to go heavy on the brakes/gas/clutch and gear changes in peak hour traffic the lane i was in came to an unexpected stop. quite unthinkingly i checked my mirrors, indiecated left and changed lanes.

I completely missed WOG boy in his sports crumple zone overtaking me at warp factor "is that legal?" whome i cut off, cause i didnt check the center mirror just the left wing mirror, I was after all in the right hand lane..

so fnrugle brains decided that the appropriate actgion was to then sprint his little dinky toy past me cut me off, hook on the brakes then storm, on foot, in the middle of peak hour traffic to have a his fist to my face conversation...

being the end of what was a hot long day I, being inherintly lazy, had already preselected first before he got out of the car and had one foot on the clutch and whas heel/toeing the brake/gas with my right..

nuff nuff wog boy git proceded to introduce his fist to the top of my skull through the open window (air con for some reason i cant rememer was dead), having guessed his game I simply allowed my foot to sink on the loud pedal, slide off of the brake and then as i feigned unconsiousness drop off of the clutch...

2.3 ton disco, with 3.9l v8 efi at full noise with bull bar +apparntly unconsious driver given a 10m run up can push a mobile sports crumple zone a LOOONG way down parramatta road until said mobile crumple zone hits light post and is compressed about 2 feet.

What i didnt know was 3 or so cars back was an unmarked cop car that saw, and reported the whole incident..

    my court evidence...

"your honour, I have no clear recolection of the events, I do remeber having to come to a halt for a stoped vehicle in front of me but my next clear memory was of a brown haired bloke with a concerned look on his face shaking my shoulder asking me if I was alright.."

The witnesses events carried the day and I got me a freebie bull bar and vehicle inspection.

Ahhh some days I love my landrovers.... still hate idiots in sports cars tho... The liscencing system is all screwed up, I rekon you should have to be able to competenly operate something overweight, underbraked and underpowered before they let you drive a highspeed lightweight.

I do the F3 run daily and usually sit alittle above the posted speed so therefore anyone who passes me "IS" speeding because I am .

It's not the guy in his hotted up Plastic Rice Burner playing his Doff Doff at 400db, screaming past that scares me.
It's the guys driving 50T of B-double at 140+k's screaming down the Mooney bridge smacked off their face, that haven't sleep for days that scare me. Speed limited My ****.

ahhh, let's not start having this as a slanging session at truckies shall we? Stereotypes like that are about as relevant and accurate as the ones of 4wdrivers held by good ol' Scruby and co.

Re: speed limitation, yes, some drivers do tamper with them but you will find that the larger reputable companies all have them fitted complete with GPS units and if drivers speed they get fired. Simple as that. Same, same for rest stops etc. Log books are checked and with road monitoring cameras people do get caught for doing the wrong thing.

BTW, speed limiters don't work downhill. Gravity has primacy there and with 50t+ on board you do tend to get a bit of speed up. Tip - don't pull out in front of a truck.

Its not trucks that scare me, i couldnt care less about them most of them are normally pretty good, the know where you are aslong as you take into mind their blind spots and make sure you stay visible. What ****s me is the small number of dipsticks that think it is ok to sit in the middle lane of a free way when the slow lane is empty and do 10km/h below the marked speed limit. I have toned down my driving of late and devloped a care free attitude to the morons around me, to further prolong my life the horn on the disco doesnt work so i cant **** anyone off to the point they might want to shoot me.

On a bad not just heard on the new that a 17yr old P-plater was killed in QLD today or yesterday after he was stabbed in a road rage incident, now that is bad. Matt

I use the one going faster than me as a saftey blanket, they normally get pulled over by the cops which holds them up long enough not to worry about me

I spent much of my working life driving, cars, trucks, buses. The road users that really get up the noses of professional drivers are the people who WON'T GET GOING!!! The ones who take several seconds to take off when the light turns green or when it is safe to do so from a stop or give way sign. the ones who treat roundabouts as stop signs. The ones who take two blocks to accelerate to 40-50 ks in a 60 zone and then drive in the middle of the road so you cant overtake. The ones who pull out from a side road into a gap in a traffic stream, said gap not being long enough for them to accelerate to the speed of the stream so everyone now behind them has to slow down and bunch up. Caravanners ( known for decades to truckies as "terrorists" as opposed to tourists) who drive the open highways at 80-90ks, refuse to look in their mirrors and see the long line of unhappy motorists behind them, and have no intention of pulling over to let others past. Farmers who pull out from their side roads or gates onto a highway when they could have waited 30 seconds for a traffic stream to pass, and then drive into town at 60ks. When you think of a stop at traffic lights as being from 90 seconds to 3 minutes, then run a few of these stops together, you can understand the frustation of a courier or delivery driver who is paid per delivery, and a sales rep, to whom the missed calls as a result of missed lights caused by slowcoaches, could have meant commission. These frustating delays could mean several missed calls/drops in a working day.
So, get moving, people. Accelerate briskly to the speed limit, keep up to it as long as it is safe to do so. Keep left so tailgaters can get past. Dont make the traffic streams prop just so you can get in the first available space.

And, if you want to get out of your vehicle and go the knuckle, make sure you have not brought boxing gloves to a gunfight.

There are good and bad in all drivers and roadusers. Truckdrivers are not excepted to this, neither should they be unfairly targeted. It is the cowboys that do the damage. We were run off the road some time back by a road train coming the opposite way fast asleep at the wheel, wrong side of the road, spotties blaring so we could not see the road. We went bush hooter blaring, he kept going no apology on the CB anything. Then there are the triple road trains around here that are doing 40kph in a 110kph zone. Thats a lot of fun when you come over a hill or around a bend and there is one of these clowns on the road. There have been numerous fatalities over the years around here, when tourists who are not used to or aware of these trucks going this slow. Then there's the whipping of the dog trailers wildly onto the wrong side of the road. Does not matter how good the driver is in the last 2 situations they can and do kill people.
