Is it still on? Not much publicity regarding the mighty Maroons.
Do we need Alfie to lace up to get people involved
Well , the fugby administration....( mostly retired players with concussion related mental illness).....keep using second hand VFL....long past AFL ....ideas to try to excite the NRL followers to believe their game has a future.
Commentators vis Warren shout out words and phrases that they dont really understand....still sanction the biff and get wildly excited when an outbreak occurs or when a played is slammed into the turf causing concussion.... no denying it...it happens every game.
If it wasnt for the continuous feed of pacific nation players who are supposedly "educated" through a number of "sports education" feeder schools the whole game would collapse.
I know first hand as my son was one of them.
State of Origin was a VFL "fun" match each year for Victoria and South Australia with a rich history. Then AFL started special rounds and guess what? So did NRL.
Do I watch it? Yes, I flick over at qtr time half time and threequarter time while the AFL is on....enough for me.
VFL SoO games were great, and as a Victorian they feel like they were here for ever, but in fact the first official one was 1977 between WA and Vic.
There is zero chance of any AFL SoO games. AFL is a massive business, a very long way from the game I grew up with, and no club wants to risk a million dollar player in a game that doesn't count for Premiership points. I imagine the NRL clubs see things similarly.
On concussion, one of the biggest proponents of cutting out head high contact, Kangaroo legend David King, was one of the game's biggest thugs.... Not saying he's wrong, concussions can have serious deleterious effects.

If it's not your cuppa earl grey, that's fine, but no need to bag it. Most true Queenslanders love the game, as do those from south of the Tweed.
I have zero interest in AFL, but wish those who do follow much enjoyment from their chosen code.
As a matter of interest, how many countries play each other in AFL?
