When it's not, something is afoot my friend!

Sooo, let me ask a n00b question: what is the simpson season? We will be shipping our car (and ourselves :P) over by the end of this year and I intend to do as many beautiful and iconic spots/tracks as I can manage. And yes, the simmo is up there

    Cheers,
    -P

Southern hemisphere winter, at the moment it is unseasonably wet.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

August, September and October are normally the best months for those from your latitude.

We have just come back from Cape York for the second time - first was 2017. Fantastic trip (albeit not in my D2 this time). Our next big trip will be the Simpson. Would like to go next year but likely it will be this time (approx) 2026. Not sure if I need a long range tank. Chances are I will take 2 or 3 Jerry cans. The long range tanks can be good but are expensive and compromise clearance slightly (and I have heard of some, even the big selling steel one having issues with bolts breaking - may be down to the fitment of course).

    Cheers

Only the other day, I was wondering where you were, Ozscott. Good to see you here again, looking forward to the trip report.

Scott, don't take this as fact, (long ago, in a land far away) but I think my D1 TDi needed a one jerry top-up to get to Birdsville.

p.s. that was without getting stuck, mind you, or tear-arseing up and down dunes.

Thanks mate. Been flat out with work leading up to the big northern adventure and since. I will do the write up as part of the Asian vehicle section report as the Triton is very close to 100,000klm now. It was a gem on the trip - very comfortable capable vehicle including doing the 5 beaches run at Cape York full laden. I am loving the rooftop tent Ian - though I suspect it wouldn't look as good as yours on the D2 (or has the Rangie got it on now ).

    Cheers
