Just helping friends sorting estate for garage sale.
One of 1961 Swiss made theodolite , looks in perfect condition although no tripod.
I suggested it was quite valuable, then realised no one would ever use such a beautiful thing nowadays, sigh ....so will probably go the same way as the nine lawnmowers

If it is Swiss made, then probably a "Wild" which are quality instruments. I would be interested myself if a reasonable price. Does it still have a box?

Depending on the model, the price may fluctuate a bit. There should be a small plate on the side, below the Vertical Tangent, clamp screw, with an alpha-numeric model i.e. T1A (Unlikely), T21, T16 etc. It may also be an RDS model.
Does it have a Tribrach? The three-knobbed, triangular, levelling plate on the very bottom?
I'm good mates with the retired creator/curator of the Qld Surveying Museum so, if you want, if you can get the model number, he may be able to advise or even be interested in it.
Of course, Old Farang has dibs on it, for sure!
p.s. being a '61 model, it could also be a Kern brand. Also an excellent, Swiss made instrument.

If a museum wants it that would be a good place. I suppose that it is up to the family that has it what to do with it. I just hate to think that it would just be thrown out!

It was a good, old unit. Our Landies were quite quickly replaced, in the early to mid-'70s, with Japanese vehicles. Being young and carefree, it never occurred to me at the time, of the history that went with them.
The Toyotas (and a sprinkling of Datsuns) were sort of eagerly awaited, more for the novelty factor than anything.
My old SWB Toyota was a ripper too. I occasionally got hauled over the coals by my boss for taking it places previously untouched by man.
