MyGov scams are hitting my address again

So far I have been hit with 3 mygov scams, this week one saying that there is a refund and to log on with your details, and this one say that employer has marked tax ready and to log on to get things going and at the end of this email it says Kindly refrain from responding to this message, and another one saying that my details need to be up dated. You look at the email address and it comes from different site not the mygov au. I wish people would get smart and not answer these emails and then they get on the TV saying that they lost all there money. Heather

You're doing the right thing Heather. Check the address, and if not right, delete it and move on. Just another annoyance to deal with in todays age. If in doubt go to the official MYGOV website and log yourself in to check for messages. Never click on a link in an email

If they can catch one in a thousand, it's better money than a proper job, for the amoral scum.

I got one yesterday - easy to spot, because I have my email client set to not display html, so it shows the actual address the email was sent from. The most recent one purported to be from my ISP - but they always send emails from their own address, rather than "mymsixtoy.com" but disguised as "skymesh.com.au" when displayed in html!

    Don.
Hi Don l have never ever clicked on any links, I still have Mario phone and his phone is set up to pick up tele market/ scams etc. And the phone only rings twice and it hangs up on the call. I still have Mario phone is because this is where Brendon calls through face book, and Mario has a fb page Fishing Westernport which is still going. I don't have face book and never will. It kinda of make you mad that people click on links and answer scam callers. People have been told to hang up or dont not click on any links. If you use the phone that the scammer came in on don't use that phone use another one as they can redirect the call to them. And then they get on TV crying that they lost there money which makes me see red, how many time do people need to be told. Well that my little gripe for the day. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Heather

I hear the TAX office has lost billions last year to scams when the scammers pretend to be us. Oddly every call from them now comes from a PRIVATE number and they ask me to Identify myself which I never ever do to an incoming call to me! I will only if I call them from a number I know not one some one says is the number or link or............

Buckle down on this on Heather and all. Your security depends mostly on you.

I use an open source email client "Claws". This is the Linux version, I don't know if they do a Windows version.

In this mail client, under preferences, Message view, Text options, I choose "Render HTML messages as text". I would expect any sensible mail client to have this, or similar preference available.

In addition, the mail client allows you with one click to display the entire message header, which will show the real origin address of the message.
