    New Aldi opening

just up the street at Old Ormeau Town a new Aldi store will open very soon.

My previous thoughts on Aldi were not good but I'm going to give them. a go because of the total contempt shown to Australian farmers and shoppers by other large grocery outlets dotted and continuing to be dotted more , amidst their claims of supporting Australia so gallantly. If it looks like bull**** , smells like it , it surely is.

I pretty much only use Aldi these days. They're great once you get used to them. They don't have 57 Varieties of the same thing made in the same place like the others. They don't have the range either, but that's mostly a distraction afaic. When I was in Qld for a couple of months last year I found the stores at Beaudesert and Yamanto that I used actually had more than the ones here. And, as a pensioner I find their prices to be great. And nobody has to pay extra to get their products on a more prominent shelf. You can keep the big two. Even the IGA in Boonah, which has no local competition, is better than those two mobs.

Since Aldi opened in Dubbo I have got most of my groceries (and a few other bits and pieces) there, but they do not have everything, and I usually find I have to go to Coles or Woolworths to get a few items every trip to town.

But Aldi is usually cheaper and easier to shop at (faster checkouts, smaller store, don't keep rearranging stuff etc).

They don't have the tea I like... Luckily there's a local semi indie nearby that does. They don't have things like light globes, except as "special buys". Speaking of special buys, they are worth keeping an eye on. And their tools, when they have them, are pretty good for the casual user.

Wish they'd start opening stores down here in Tassie. Everything is dearer down here compared to the mainland.
Did ask them years ago when they would start opening down here but they said it wasnt interested in opening down here.

Around ten years ago, the good woman bought an Aldi, 9500 lb winch for the 'cruiser tilly, for under $300. It is mainly used for snigging logs and the removal of lantana and the like. It has been used two or three times for vehicle extrication.

    It hasn't missed a beat.

I have a Workzone Chonda engined pressure washer. I can't fault it, except I backed the OKA into it and broke the handle of the trolley. $299. So many of the cheap ones have the pump fail, but I've had mine for at least four years. And all the other brand nozzles fit. I am even considering some of their cordless stuff just to have on hand. Heck, it's cheap enough that I could just harvest the 18650 cells from the battery packs and still come out in front. ( I doubt they would be gel pack )

Sure, some of their stuff is gimmicky, but I'm waiting for an Aldi 3D printer.....

Oh yeah.. I believe I mentioned their insurance. Double the cover for half the price of what I had before. Proof would be in the claiming, I guess, but my previous mob didn't shine there either. The fire we had was a very stressful time, dealing with the mob I won't name.

    rebuild Aldi winch.

    hi Saitch.

if I recall someone on this forum did a pictorial strip down of the Aldi winch. and replaced the cheap bearings and seals with known quality items.

I remember it being pointed out that the grease was also low in quality and quantity.

Following a. rebuild like that there should be no concerns.

My experience with their newly opened stores is the the specials are of a higher quality for a while to rope you in. Watch closely.

You cynic Don, all the stock is available nationwide, if you're quick enough.
Aldi stuff is pretty reasonable quality for the price and their good with warranty too.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
