Please identify the lap steel slide guitar player on this Crossroads Clip

    Hello All,

I was just chilling out to a B. B. King clip where he played with some other greats at a Crossroads concert. Then towards the end of the clip it features a lap steel slide player. The official description does not name the player. Does any one know who the player is? I have a soft spot for lap steel slide guitar - especially when they play the blues.

Interestingly, I was listening to the clip wondering while each of the other players were doing solos and I wondered how the song would translate on a slide guitar. I was surprised when around the 8:36 minute mark the very thing I was thinking about happened!

Video clip B.B. King - The Thrill Is Gone [Crossroads 2010] (Official Live Video) accessed 7th of March 2025 from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgXSomPE_FY

    B. B. King - gone and very sadly missed.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hello Ray (ChookD2),

Thank you for your reply. I just joined a guitar forum (The Gear Page). Within 20 minutes I received a reply from "Ceyuh" who identified the pedal steel guitar player as Robert Randolph, from the band Robert Randolph And The Family Band. Here is a link to Robert Randolph playing "Voodoo Chile". As the webpage suggests, the name of the song is not to be confused with Voodoo Child. Accessed 8th March 2025 from, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt5BVuIv4t8. This clip is really handy for identification too . Robert has his name on his guitar! Sort of the best proof positive that you can get!

    Enjoy.

    Thanks again, Ceyuh!

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Yes its Robert Randolph. For brilliant lap steel/steel guitar playing check out any live stuff by David Lindley. Maybe try Lindley and G E Smith doing "Play It All Night Long" then maybe Lindley doing "Mercury Blues" with his band El Rayo X. Sensational. You're going down a rabbit hole here!
    Happy listening, Peter.
