You need an iPhone 14 or newer and you can access satellite for 000 calls I believe. You certainly get a little satellite icon when you have no terrestrial signal.
Anyone got any insight into how to make emergency calls when the phone has no coverage from any carrier. I haven’t been able to find anything about it that I can make sense of. Internet coverage is available. I may need it. I have an iPhone.

I should probably say that I don’t think I need it tonight, just trying to be prepared.

There is an app for that. Unfortunately it requires mobile coverage.

if you have internet service available then you should be able to use VOIP protocols to establish a call.
On A Driod phone (samsung) this feature is wifi calling I belive its the same for an Iphone but I have no idea on where they hide it in the I phone menu.

IPhone:
Go to Settings
Scroll down to Phone and select it
Scroll down to Wi-Fi Calling and turn that on.
I usually have it off because it’s not as reliable (for me) as normal mobile service.

Thanks Ron. I already have that turned on but I've never found it to work here. Perhaps it would with 000 or 112, but there's no real way to check. They frown upon "frivolous" calls.

your ISP or router firewall needs to have the right configuration for it to work, you also need to have the wifi calling setup as the priority service otherwise if you have even the most useless of mobile signal the wifi calling wont turn on.
To test if your system works you could try turning on flight mode then enabling wifi, wait a few minutes and then trying to make a call. If you can make a call to any number you can reach 000, 112. To the best of my knowledge if your ISP modem doesnt support the wifi calling directly you can cheat it by going through a router but my understanding any wifi accessible modem thats newer than about 2020 has the service accessible . I have, in the past (and I have the luxury of having 2 phones) when it hasnt connected directly been able to connect one phone to the wifi set it up to share its network and then connecting the second phone to the phone thats connected to the wifi.
