Yeh i think its must be a model thing i mainly wave to defenders i think its only because theres less of us defender drivers than there is disco and rangies drivers.![]()
Can anybody tell me what the decorum is when doing the Landie wave when another landie passes by??? I have a fender trayback and only seem to get return waves from fellow fender drivers. Dont Disco and Rangie drivers recognise me??? Is it a model thing??? Someone help me out before I either get RSI in my wrist or develop a complex...![]()

Hahaha
Rangie Drivers dont wave, 1 hands holding the wheel the other a Capachino...
Discovery drivers dont wave... They're just jealous they dont drive a Defender
Defender drivers wave, in mutual appreciation of the "Best of Breed"

I've never failed to get an exchanged wave from a Defender driver who's seen me going by yet. The key word there is "seen". I think that Discoveries and Range Rovers look similar in size and shape to many other brands on the road at first glance which is why I don't usually wave to them - it's too hard to make out that they are actualy a Land Rover. If they are going slowly enough I'll try and wave. Some have actually waved back - I suppose that's because my windscreen sticker says "LAND ROVER OWNERS CLUB" in big letters.
Generally though - if you can't recognise a Defender or Series coming towards you in traffic you should go and get your eyes checked and take yourself off the road![]()
Having both I generally wave at other Fender drivers but Discos are too plentiful and the range of owners too vast from school drop off vehicles, boat pullers to serious off roaders. maybe I'm a bigot , who knows, who cares but unless it looks as if it has seen dirt I don't wave.
I think you have hit the nail on the head - it is easy to spot the Defender/Series, but the others are hard to spot - they blend in.Originally Posted by Omaroo
As far as I am concerned, I wave at everyone (Landrover or not) where there is sparse traffic, but usually only spot Series/Defenders when the traffic is heavy.

When we're in Cooma we wave at everyone because we are on a long dirt road - and if you are on it you're probably a local. We also wave at everyone up at the folks' place at Lightning Ridge - especially on the back roads. People are still friendly when they're out of the city and don't have to compete for tailgating rights.
Got two waves returned over the weekend firstly from a beautifully restored S1 or early S2 shortie over near Gundy, The second a bright red country on the New England Highway.
And yes twas in my disco.

I wave at everything LR - okay maybe not Freelanders - they're not best of breed, more like mongrel bitzers! The new ones might b alright though
People who drive Series Land Rovers are, overwhelmingly, Land Rover enthusiasts. People who drive Defenders are, very commonly, Land Rover enthusiasts. People who drive other models may or may not be. So it's just odds - if they're on this site they'll probably either wave first or quickly follow, but some drivers are ignorant of the breed loyalty. They probably bought their Disco for the in-car entertainment system and the leather seats.Originally Posted by DRUT
I look out for Series and Defenders and return all waves - though sometimes late with "lesser" () models 'cos I'm not expecting them.
So I'd say wave to whoever you want to and expect waves back from enthusiasts whatever they drive.
As an aside, the wave is something I appreciate in Land Rover ownership, having appreciated the wave motorcyclists (normally) give each other. But the motorcycle wave is similar - Harley riders may or may not wave to sportsbike riders and vise versa...
