I think it would fall into the category of "If you have to ask how much, then you can't afford it"!![]()
This is just pie-in-the-sky stuff. How much trouble would it be to buy a new defender and have a TDV6 fitted? Oh and the 6speed auto gearbox? What sort of money would I be looking at? Thats just starters I'd want the insides rearranged a bit cause I'm not the slimest of blokes and a defender is a bit squeezy for me. Is there LR specialists out there who do that sort of thing? Which of the current defender models would it be best to do the above to? Just dreaming while I wait for my bloody money to show up.

Um getting a Defender, putting in a TDV6, adding comforts - just buy a Disco 3 mate. I've driven one, they're not half bad.
And even when they are noisy, they are quieter (if you get my drift).
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

1. Ask Bruce Davis for his price to convert TD5 Defender to auto.
2. Get up from floor. Check for injuries.
3. Double figure? 3 times? Who knows.

You may be able to order one from LR Special Vehicles, I suppose it depends on how much engineering is required to squeeze the V6 into the engine bay. Whether you could get it Australian complianced would be another matter.
Another option would be to buy a Defender (wouldn't have to be new if you just want the body), buy a D3, do a swap, sell the Td5 D3.
Again, getting it over the pits might be problematic.
(personally I would buy the RR V8 diesel and swap the motor out of that.)
I think that is the ball park MR were talking.Originally Posted by VladTepes
I think basically you'd have to wait for someone to stack a D3 properly before you could even consider this project.
There is a chance it might not even fit in the engine bay, or that you would have to build adapters to go into the transfer case.
It's fun to think about though![]()
Ive still got one and I concur albeit a V8 but it goes whereever everyone elses goes, well almost aside from the places I just go NupUm getting a Defender, putting in a TDV6, adding comforts - just buy a Disco 3 mate. I've driven one, they're not half bad.![]()

I can see a large 5 figure price tag with this conversion, Nice idea though.
There are guide lines for capasities of engines in conversions, Anything can be fitted into an engine bay. the tdv6 looks like it would fit the defender engine bay.
Buy a defender with td5 and do a power upgrade. much more sense to do this. Interior mods are as simple as how much you would like to spend.

Sounds like the logical solution is to get both a wrecked D3 and an old Defender and just do a ground-up rebuild with the TDV6 etc. Probably cheaper but could cost you your marriage over time.
