My grandfather on dads side was American. Turns out we had/have a lot of family over there from Minnesota to Texas. We spent many years traveling around meeting them and their friends. Often the guests of honor at "Meet our Australian relatives" parties.

I can believe pretty much all of those. Just be thankful its only a small percentage of Americans that own a passport.

Heard a story somewhere of an American tourist in Alice Springs on a 'cultural experience' day tour. At the end of the day the locals threw some kangaroo tails on a fire and passed some around for everyone to have a taste.

The American woman took a bite and said "hmm this so moist. Tell me... how long does it take for the kangaroo to regrow it's tail after it is cut off"

True story or a joke, I don't know...

I may have told this story before...

Some years ago when we were in Switzerland, an American woman asked my wife, Elisabeth, (who is Swiss), "What are there so many Red Cross flags?"

Shortly after, another American woman looked at the Swiss flag pendant Elisabeth was wearing and asked, "What is your medical condition?

Elisabeth had no idea what the woman was talking about until she pointed at the pendant.

I imagine that is like standing on a street in Vienna and asking where the kangaroos are.

    Crazy stuff.

Mind you, I got asked by a student today if you can get welders flash from an angle grinder. That resulted in a swift barrage of disrespect from the rest of the class.

That is a par with the serious question I was asked many years ago " will I get sunburnt if I go out to look at the super full moon tonight?"

Or the lady in the flat next door to me in Melbourne about 1980, who was very concerned because her daughter, who was a nurse, was taking a job in Darwin - "she might have to nurse aborigines!!". I told her that she most certainly would have to! She headed straight for the telephone to call her daughter, who, I suspect, might be taking the job because it was a long way from Melbourne, and probably already knew the answer. I never met the daughter, but knowing her mother I can see why she might want a job a long way from Melbourne.

My sister and bil were holidaying in Iceland. The hotel staff will, if asked, wake guests if the Northern Lights are putting on a good display.
After being woken one night, an American complained that the display wasn't put on during the day.
