Funny thing, once the decision was made I haven't looked back. I don't miss it, I don't care if others around me drink, I don't look longingly at the grog shelf at the shops. My neighbour has a bottle of top shelf single malt from Tassie, and I wanted a sniff... but not a snifter. The aroma was enough, and a really good malt was my worst weakness.

I just did this. I didn't plan to. In fact, I couldn't imagine life without alcohol. Now I can't imagine life with it. People choose their own paths. I'm not a preacher, I know people enjoy their drink, and I wish them well. But my path would have ended very badly.

Interesting how decisions sometimes come about. Decades ago, a squatter on our current property, an alcoholic, went on a bender. Woke up next morning and reached our for an already open can. Found he couldn't stomach the taste anymore and was a tea totaler thereon after.

Personally I don't see the point of zero alcohol beer. Seems to me that it's just another "uniform". I prefer something like lemon, lime and bitters if I'm in a drinking environment. But we're all different.

I used to drink a lot... each day. I was going to the bottle shop to top up my supplies for that night. I had my very last $50 in my hand as I walked in, and I looked at it and said No. I still had some grog at home. Finished that and , well, finished.
