Thread: You Have To Love Customer Service

You'd be flat out buying parts for a ten year old vehicle, from a dealer. They'd probably be stunned to find a thirty year old car, still in existence.
Not just Toyota.

I would be happy to love customer service, if anybody offered me some....

Notable exceptions would include Tim of DriveSafe.

That is appalling service, Toyota seem to think a vehicle is like a software package that can become "unsupported"!

I think legally, car manufacturers only have to support their products for seven years.

It’s interesting. One of the amplifiers I am repairing is a Perreaux from NZ, circa 1980. The company has changed hands and restructured since then, but an email to them got them digging into the archives and finding me a circuit diagram, which they scanned and sent to me as a pdf. Now, I know they are not as big as Toyota, but then they didn’t make millions of the things either, and changed their product line completely.

I think under Australian Consumer Law is for a reasonable time and durability which seems to be 7 to 10 years although I suspect some of it comes down to dealership contracts. The mid tier legacy brands are going to cut their own throats with short term support, so no reason to buy a car from them rather than the new mostly Chinese brands unlike the premium brands. I know of a guy who collects Porsches as he reckons they will always supply a part even if they have to custom make it....Porsche is building new parts for 50 year-old cars | CarExpert

As Land Rover is another brand with character they have the "Reborn" programme for the first Series and Range Rovers, I hope they get around to Discoverys soon as mine is 20 years old this month...The Legend Lives On… | Land Rover Media Newsroom.

I don't know if this still holds- and it has nothing to do with me currently having a Fiat project car- but I recall back in the 1980s Fiat had a policy that you could buy any part for any car they had ever made.
For those buying the new Chicom 'cars', I wonder what would be considered reasonable time and durability there? 6 months?

A bloke at work has a 1956 VW Bettle (oval window). He wrote to VW in Germany and they provided him with all the information for that vehicle. The date (and day) it was completed, and all the specs.

This thing is a classic show car and has won numerous awards. It even still has (intact) the fire extinguisher tube under engine cover.
