Agan, spent the morning on the tractor, improving firebreaks until it got too hot. Came back to the house and found an email about a fire update meeting in the village fire shed at 1245. Went to that , but found it had been cancelled (because everyone is too busy). One of the two trucks is on the Garling fire (the one near me) and the other was about to head to the Beni fire. That fire, just east of Dubbo, started yesterday, and being mostly a grassfire, it spread very rapidly, crossing the railway, the Talbragar River, and the Golden Highway (closing it for some time). A railway bridge has apparently been destroyed.
Moments after the second truck departed for the Beni fire, notification was received of a fire in the village, and that truck was diverted to it, as was a helicopter that was working on the Beni fire. Now under control. The Beni fire is not yet under control, but the Garling one is.
Information received seems to show that the householder had been burning some rubbish outside this morning, and then left for town! This on a day with extreme fire danger and a total fire ban. It is now 42° here, wind 27-31kts and humidity 14%. The same householder has been reported stealing water from the old school, currently the Anglican church.
