Having said that, crocs prefer murky water so that you don't see them coming. As long as someone hasn't been through the creek crossing shortly beforehand you can usually see in the water quite easily.
This does NOT mean that you do not walk the crossing first, just that you should be able to see if there are any crocs about :o
My avatar pic is the Defender up to its bonnet in water. She floated at first at which time I was going oh crap. Once she settled fown I just drove out with a fountain in the cab. Was 1 cm below the ECU in its compartment though. And yes the vents were open.
Just check the oil & check for water contamination... If water has got in, it'll be a milky coffee colour instead of an 'oil' colour!Quote:

As Matt (Ace) has already mentioned, hot components getting dunked into cold water have a tendancy to suck in water as they're cooling. The other thing is to make sure you approach gently and not at speed!!! Hitting the water hard & fast will only force water & mud past the seals and into the driver train.

My wife took the pic. Would you believe she took it too late? This is at Nolan's Brooke on the OTL, and not a second before the entire R/H side of the bonnet was under water, to the point where the L/H side of the bonnet was just starting to have water come over the top.
Spitting that she mistimed the photo, and damned if I was gonna go back and do it again :) As she only had a film camera, we didn't find out until we got back and got it processed :(
Well that answers my question. We were there in July. I sit 7" over standard and wan't real impressed with the depth, left wondering how more normal Disco's drive through. I still recall turning up and there were snorkellers in the water, and in the tyre tracks which were the most direct route through, they were standing at about tittie deep! Aloa's girlfriend took control of his Defender and went straight through the deepest part! She got through ok, but had a little flood from the front vents.Quote:

your shot is taken almost exactly the same spot as mine-you can see the benefit of your lift--assuming depth of creek is similar in both shots.
Thats as deep as I have taken a 4wd and happy to leave that record unbroken....until I have 7" lift.
My general theory, is that you really need to question it if its deeper than sill depth, but that was one crazy crossing. I'm glad I did it now, but 2 or 3 days before this I'd only just fitted a replacement radiator after putting the fan into it. I think this one at the start of the OTL was a bit deeper though.
