Spare key, not lost just can't find it

    Hi

Having moved house recently just can't track down the spare key for the Disco.

What options do I have to replace the key rather than through the local dealer, probably none but just thought I would ask.

    Hi Harry
    Long time no hear.
Cheapest option is probably via Ebay UK or USA.
Pretty sure you will still need to have it coded by a dealer.

A mate (who's on this site from time to time) knows how to reset/recode a Disco 2 fob to your car without needing a dealer to do it.

    Or so he tells me.

If only I could remember his user name....

You'll need to get the key coded to the car. Mate lost his 2001 Disco keys a few years back and was hit for abut $500 to get the 2 lock barrels and the keys replaced and programmed in to the ECU by a LR dealer. That was the option he was given at the time. eBay etc sound a good idea!

Hi guys I don't know if this will work with a new key but worth a try
mine had a flat battery and when i changed it I couldn't get it to work
The guy at one dealer said to stand within range of the vehicle and
keep pressing one of the buttons on the fob as fast as you can and
it should reset itself in 30-60 seconds.
Hint warm up your thumb first as it get sore.

    Got your message Vlad

    Cheers

    Hi Bigmac
Does this mean providing I can get a screwdriver or similar to operate the locks my D2 key can open any D2????
    Interesting concept

    Hi Landy Andy

Checked with the local dealer $443 including coding and I need to get it cut.

ebay has one at about $110 ex the USA so that will probably be the way I go unless one of the rellies in the UK can source one for me

Just a thought - have you triede one of the aftermarket places and see if they can do it for you cheaper (genuine item) ? They often purchase parts for a reasonable cost and onsell them at less than the dealer price, so you never know !!

Working through that option so far all advise "dealer only" so ebay still looking a good option.

    Thanks for the thought anyway
