Anyone work for AQIS?

Nothing to do with Landrovers but.... we arrive in Brisbane to begin the rest of our lives at the end of the month. Our container of worldly possessions will arrive a month later & will be subject to an AQUIS Inspection. I have heard some horror stories about fake flowers being confiscated & new bicyles still in their wrapping having to be cleaned etc. We have pressure washed everything except the kids & I do appreciate the need to keep foreign bugs & plants out. Any advice gratefully accepted. Oh yea & the other comments too. PS. I will be looking for a Classic RR costing up to 12k if anyone knows of one...

to be honest mate i think it is how they feel on the day

we imported house stuff and a car

they did how ever have our stuff for months, but they did not wash the car....when we received the car it was 10 times dirtier than when we sent it.......and they never inspected our house hold goods either

yet i had friends that came over and all there stuff was checked and sprayed, but i think that may of been because they found a small spider in the container

i think you will be alright don't worry about it

In practice, (personal opinion/experience NOT necessarily FACT)

If the bicycle is dirty - they especially check the tyres for soil, then it will have to be cleaned.
If ANY insects (spiders, wood borers etc) are found alive then treatment of some sort will be required (depends what is found as to what treatment).
No reason why fake flowers would be confiscated. Someone must have been having a brainfart for that to happen.

As well as AQIS issues there is CUSTOMS as well, so you better not have brought any drugs or guns etc or I'll nail your **** to the wall.

There are HEAPS and HEAPS and HEAPS of Classic Rangies in your price range.

We'll go for a trip when you get here. If you haven't sorted a car by then you can tag along in one of ours !

We bought all our goods over. Bikes, shoes, tools etc etc. Not a problem. Although they did look through the container. Inspected the bikes, and shoes, + one other box then sent it on it's way. We cleaned everything. They did however miss a wooden framed saw that did have some beasties from Europe in it. I solved that problem by giving them a free swim in some petrol for a few days.

From the reports that I have had, it also depends on the freight company a little bit. We used a professional company that does this type of thing all the time (usually with priceless antiques) and we had to give him a list of what we wanted to take, then he told us, yes for this, no for that, clean that so it is spotless and better than new. Then they looked after ALL the customs, quarantine problems and fees. The transport up to my place, unpacking and removal of packing material. Very happy with them and the customs, quatanitne guys. You do a great job!

Guy' apart from personal items, would it not be better to sell it at home and then buy here again when you get here, would there be much of a loss when you consider all the crap and time wastage the Aus Govt put you through??

The other way is just hire a boat and land on our shores..say" we are political refugees" and then we house you, clothe you ,give you free medical and dental work and give you everything you need even fortnightly welfare cheques all at tax payers expense..you don't even have to speak english and can even burn our flag...great place Australia

all for FREE!!

But if your a decent family of wealth contributing immigrants we will give you the shhits , Tax you to high heaven and make sure that any wealth you built up at home is weaned from you in all your new purchases here.

The thing is that if you are going to import your goods, you pay for the container. Weather you fill it up OR just put one pair of shoes the price is the same. It cost us about $15,000 to bring my stuff over and there was no way I could buy the same equipment over here. So my stuff was loaded first, then filled up the container with the rest of the stuff from the house.

My advice, IF you are going to bring something over, bring everything, tele, shoes etc etc. we did and never had any problems

We had a container come over from the Uk . AQIS did not look at the stuff we had. Well not alot. They opened 3 of the 45 boxes we had and looked in them to check that they were what was said on the list I know that because i was there at the house in the uk, when Pickfords packed them and i opened them the other side here in Aus. And i could tell that most of them had not been opened. But they did not even look at the Piano that we had brought with us. Which surprised me as i thought they would due to wood worm and such things. (it was not new but a 1914 one)
We did not bring bikes or lawn mover or stuff like that as we were told they will clean these items and charge you more than they are worth to clean them
The 90 on the other hand they did clean

But one thing i did learn was that the rules on the webb sites are not the rules they follow (or they change them every day or so

). Crapped myself about the 90 and did not need to , which also mean't i was gutted i did not bring the winch challenge 90

I dont work for AQIS but deal with them almost every day ( customs broker in training), a full container will need to be unpacked at an AQIS approved container depot to be inspected and as long as there is no dirty used car parts, kids bikes /toys, etc it should be fairly straight forward. You will need to arrange for a transport company to collect the container and take to the aqis depot, as Reads said depending on which aqis officer does the inspection will determine what gets passed and what doesnt also depends on what sort of day they have had ! If possible be at the depot when the inspection is being done as this will make it easier and quicker for both.
