Thread: First 4WD Pic

My first 4wd...

78 Rangie bought from John Davis. It was love at first fright. P76 motor on dual fuel, lots of lift and General Grabber 33" muddies to make it a true handful. Needed it as a daily driver from Sackville (north of Windsor) to Chatswood, so took it back to genuine springs with just a bit of lift and good road tyres.

I was a late starter to 4WD, main thing my first 4WD was a Landy and you have all seen the pics of it before,

What's the water doing there ?

This is my first 4wd, a landrover of course, even though it's not 100% original.
Rebuilt to this condition after school. Had a lot of fun driving it around my parents property. Still there, retired. Was my granddads, ex qld government. When i got it the chassis was rusted away. We had a reasonable replacement, trouble was this was 4 cyl chassis, and it was a 2.6 6 cyl. So just moved engine mounts forwards. Had a pto winch which was good for pulling logs. If any one wonders, the mudguards are 44gal drum halves. Trees were bashing the others up to much.

That should have been a big sign for us, we headed of up drovers ridge trail (from the Yalwal creek near Ettrema creek across to Tolwong) for what should have been a pleasant days drive.

Due to the amount of water, boggings etc we got back home at around 2 am, (with the Numpties 1yo daughter).

One of the best 4WD tracks around at the time.

(our new years day trips ended up with a bit of a reputation)

It looks like fun .
This year is the first time I've been to Yalwal & it looks like most creeks down that way haven't had water like that through them for years.
It's good to see how the area should look.
