Aside from the fact he's probably over revving the engine at that speed in low rangeit's probably a faulty gauge or electrical problem, unless of cause he's actually checked under the bonnet to see it overheating, if that's the case then i'd say he's blown a head gasket or head or the radiator or intercooler hoses are being sucked flat and stopping flow at high revs.
83kph in low rangei was worried at 45kph in mine

Some mothers do have em. My question to him is why he needs to be doing that speed in low anyway, thats what high is for. He should have been drowned at birth.

Ace, read his post again and think about itOriginally Posted by Ace
It's not the fact that he needs to use low range at that speed, more the fact he has NFI what the low range is for.
I don't think he understands what low-range is forOriginally Posted by Ace

We had to work on a brand new 300tdi auto Disco a few years ago.
The car had been delivered to the new owner via TNT. As the tdi is a bit of a slug when cold, the drivers often put them in low range to make it easier getting them up the ramps & onto the truck.
The new owner didn't know it was in low range & drove it from Parramatta to the city & back. He brought it into us saying that it had a problem & wouldn't go over 70kph.
He'd left it in low range & didn't think to wonder why the engine was screaming its t1ts off.
The best thing is...

I used to do that when towing decent loads in the 200tDi Defender. Start of in low range and swap to high on the fly, especially when taking off up hills near Katoomba.
And 80km/h plus in low range - holy crap!I've never been able to get anything more than 40km/h, and that's revving the crap outta it!!!
