    I have a TD5 disco

If I was to get another Landy I'd get a Defender

    They're not as refined
    There Noisy
    They have no ergonomics
They have no Automatic or V8 option
They have no on road manners

    But

    They have no obsticles

It's the no Bull 4wd, if it's not on it, it's not needed

Discovery sounds just right for you F4.

Had two (D1's) so far and they've been pretty damned good. Nice, no too hitech, nor too lowtech. And the passengers don't complain, infact some and their mates think the Disco is 'cool!' Which is a big compliment coming from some who ride around in BMW X5s, Volvo XC90s and the like.

And they'd rather ride with me when i've retrieved the others off the beach (buts thats another story or three.....)

Agree with Noddy, go for a late model 300tdi Disco. If you ever watched a Camel Trophy DVD .. you will know how capable they are offroad.

If you are replacing a dual cab work ute (so did I) then how much room do you need in the back for your tools?
I have a series 1 Disco V8 and it came with cargo drawers. I carry around a few tool boxes at work but the drawers allow me to still have my recovery gear and more tools without having to stack the toolboxes.
I think the Range Rover is supposed to have more floor space in the rear.

It sounds to me like your best option would be a 300tdi Disco auto. Forget the 200tdi as it has the older looking interior and you stated you wanted the newer interior if you get a Disco.

Whatever you get if you are replacing an IFS ute then a standard Disco or Rangie will go further. Even with the utes mods.

Ok it seems the disco will probably be the most livable car, especially if its still capable. The dual cabs dont have a large tray and I can tow a trailer for rubbish and keep expensive tools locked inside. I would preferr a diesel, I have run 100%BD in my current ute and would like to continue using it. But the petrols are so much cheaper to buy, apparently a new engine is 1k vs 4k for the diesel and also I have heard a disco diesel injector is worth $1500 new? is this true, cause 6k for injectors does not sound pretty.

The TD5 injectors in the Series 2 Disco are exxy as they're not an average injector.
The 300Tdi injectors are a lot cheaper.

and require no maintenance. I have no direct knowledge of a 300Tdi injector having to be replaced.

Hi Phantom, diesel injectors for a 300Tdi are $200 each, not $1500. A new engine to buy would set you back $7000 or so, but the likely hood of having to replace the whole thing is slim, rebuild costs depend on whats buggered. Yes petrols are cheaper to repair but a well serviced diesel will last longer.

Go a late 97-early 99 model 300TDi disco they have bosch electrics so are more reliable. Matt

Go the disco. I have a 300 TdI Defender at the moment and am looking for a 300 TDi disco for the misses. Have had one beofre . Great engine , can almost be fixed with a hammer and chissel. same goes for the rest of the car. Which means alot to me if you want to go out bush with it.
As for the classic rangie. Great truck love them to bits. But i had a chap in a car yard tell me the rangie chassis was far more suprior to the disco one . So alot stronger than the disco one. When i burst out laughing he asked why was i laughing . It was then i told him they have the same chassis and running gear. In fact i then told him my Defender (that was parked on his lot) has the same axles as them too.
You have to rember Land rover are lazy gits and will use stuff across the range if they can get away with it

Land Rover hold the guiness book of record for the quickest design a new car from start to finish. This is for the Disco. But they cheated it is just a rangie classic with a differant body on it

A dual cab doesn't have a large tray however a Disco1 in comparison has a nearly non existant cargo area.

If I were you I'd go to a car yard with everything you want to carry in the back of the Disco and see how it fits. I measured my 80L fridge and made sure it fitted in the back before I bought my Disco. Although I would have bought it anyway

Mines got a cargo barrier so I can stack it to the roof but as I discovered yesterday, be careful when you open the back door
