speed/red light cameras - big brother

What ever happened to no comment on the grounds that I might incriminate myself??

    Sorry mate

In QLD you can't register a car without a licence. If there is an infirngement, then that owner is guilty unless he can prove othwise

I reckon if you were looking at a manslaughter charge from some one else driving your car you'd remember quick enough and comment.

In NSW, the owner of a motor vehicle must know at all times who is in possession of the vehicle (other than him/herself or if it is stolen), and also satisfy themself that person is licenced. If something happens (say a fail to stop accident), it will come back on the registered owner to supply the details of the person that had the vehicle at the time. It's been like that since I can remember.

If you get snapped by a camera, the owner gets the fine. If you were driving and nominate someone else as the driver, as as has happened in a high profile case here in NSW, you could go for "Conspiracy to Pervert the Course of Justice". And these cameras take high quality pics.

    AGgggHHHHHHHH

The joys of living in a democracy were the burden of guilt is on the prosecution ( and everyones intitled to defend themselves)

And all are considered Innocent until found guilty

    The times are a changing..................

As an aside the British Gov. are talking about chipping the populace by 2020 wont that be fun................

There was a recent case in NSW where the wife of David Oldfield (One Nation fame and celerity survivor) car was snapped by a camera. She is in the passenger seat -clearly in the photo - and the driver is not clear. She was given the ticket but took it too court and I believe got off - she said she couldn't remember who was driving cause it was so long ago - apparently it took some time for the fine to be sent out - also she said many of her friends drive her car when she is out but couldn't remember which one it was - she could prove she wasn't the driver so got off.

I belive the law does not compel you to tell who was driving when you can prove you were not the driver and even if it is your car you cannot be booked if you can prove it wasn't you.

    Big brother.

I believe here in WA they've changed the law so the onus is on the owner to know who was driving or pay the fine themselves.
Too many pics of speeding hire cars or those being "tested" by mechanics and the pollies weren't getting the revenue they need to keep up their over generous super plans topped up I suppose.
It's all about revenue, nothing to do with road safety as the worst drivers still get away with swerving all over the road, no signals, tailgateing etc. because there's no cops on the road.
    Hoping motoring.

The original quote seems to point otherwise?

I find it ridiculous in any matter of law that you have to prove yourself innocent.
It’s supposed to be that you are innocent until proven guilty.
It’s up to the law to prove YOU committed a crime not for you to prove you didn’t.

I can hear cries now of Yes you did kill him, what do you mean you are innocent? Prove it !!!!

Is this the thin edge of the wedge??????

Never a truer word spoker, I totally agree!
When you think of the size of Perth, (pretty small really) and I drive at least two hours a day 5 days a week. I see a traffic copabout once every two weeks. (That's usually pointing a speeding gun).
It's like they think, hmmm rush hour let's get a coffee.
