    hows this for lightening damage,,,

TV, VCR, DVD, Stereo, Fridge, washing machine,
    adsl modem(),
it actually blew the 32A ceramic stove fuse apart,, all the phones, bedside lamps, clock radios,

    but totally missed the neighbours,,,
    and missed both pc's,,,

    and no,

the good news is it was Guiness's first day "home alone" (nice one Mother-) and we had to wake him up when we got home,,,

hey you got lucky.... I was tech support for a pc company up in darwin.... some of the stories i heard from guys bringing in fried pcs, (lots of capacitor confetti in there) Made me a devout believer in unplug everything you value during lightning and earth shield the main power cable from the junction box.

Yep, had that one happen before.

    Fridge, TV, computer, stereo.

Sounds like you got hit worse.

At least Guiness is O.K (No Ron it's not a typo on my behalf)

Would you have to get the house rewired after such a big hit?

My lightning hit was a few years ago, but without the aid of lightning in the past three weeks.

Washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, dvd player. Got the 130 back with new head +new fuel leak, new oil leak, no air con.

So, to one mechanic who found the fuel leak, not oil leak.
To another mechanic fix the aircon.
That's one full day of sitting chatting to mechanics.
Booked in for another full day next week. I'm really expecting the guys who fixed the head to pay up for fixing the aircon. Working fine when it went in for head repair.

    Cheers
    Simon.

i run surge protectors on all my expensive equipment, hoping that it might help in an eent like that............

one of my protectors insures my equipment up to £10,000 if anything gets damaged due to a surge while using it
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

With such a big hit I think the surge protector would be rendered useless, the only real protection would be to unplug everything from the wallsockets.
