I like how the so called 4WD expert wasn't keen to take the Hilux down the ditch ....

I think your daughter has the Landy bug! Better get her to log on here for a regular inoculation.

I have driven a current Hilux and a mate of mine has one. He was here last weekend and we did a bit of offroading.

The Hilux went every where the Rangie and Disco II went, but with a lot more difficulty and under carriage scraping / damage.

On the other hand, he regularly cruises at 160 kph up and down the highway, my Rangie won't do that (it is 18 years old).

I guess it depends on what you really want, Japanese mass produced toy cars, or English hand built all purpose machinery.

    Not that I am biased...

and did you see the rover make it up the loose slipery slope, at road pressure in the on road tyres. watch the sidewall bulge or lack thereof when he comes up and over...

Not only is the Defender more capable - it's a chick magnet.

    160 kph? cool!
    2 kph? bogged!
(umm can someody give me a tow?)

got off the beach on sat high range no dramas - the others (non Land Rover) 'selected' low range, pussies.....

didn't even drop the tyres... but some 'others' did....

amazing how panic sets in on an incoming tide and the dunes are a haven for brown snakes.... wimps!

I would have liked to used low range, just to see it was still there, but there was no call for it....
