My daughter wants a Landie - I'm recommending she buys a Toyota.
Ron
I was at the Sydney motor show, about 3 weeks ago and was asked by a friend who is in the market for a Cayenne to get some brochures.
Porsche was a no show at the show, so I took the liberty of getting him a Range Rover Sport brochure......well I tried anyway.
When I asked for brochure, I was told they did not have brochures available (how long has the RRS been on the market)? Anyway, I filled in a form with my details for one to be sent to me.
3 weeks later.......nuttin!!!
By contrast, I also grabbed a BMW x5 brochure and left my details. Not only have I received the brochure, but I got a call from a lovely lady today asking me to come for test drive. I had completely forgotten about the RRS brochure, until I got this call from BMW.
What is really going on at LRA? Are they really serious about selling cars or am I mistaken somewhere?

LR had no presence at the Melb 4x4 show so I logically assumed that they must have focused on the Sydney motor show, on at the same time. Obviously didn't send the right stuff to it though.

Also Landy's are like blokes, when they get old, they mature.
Others are like women, when they get old, they just get old.![]()
I've owned both Toyota and Landrover now.
I think the difference between the two is that the toyota usually does have less faults, but Toyota have no idea how to fix them if they do come up, and will try and fob you off if at all possible.
Land rover seem much better at acknowledging the problem and fixing it.![]()
I have never had a Land Rover that was under warranty, so can not speak from personal experience here. My experience with Toyota as a fleet manager was that they were worse than Ford, whom I had previously regarded as the Mafia of the motor industry. Persistent Toyota warranty problems were ignored or presumed to not exist. Problems making product look bad and reported to Japan cause Toyoda-san much loss of face. "Hoorr, customer nor hoppy? You guys are funny
I've had brief affairs with ford/mazda/toyota/bmw, but am in love with my landrover, it's the longest i've ever owned one vehicle and still have no intention to get rid of it
.
Me thinks you either love them or hate them (that would be because you are jealous and don't have one, or am totally ignorant/stupid)
Like a wild woman they might have their moments, but we get by.....
Dodgy build/oil leaks/ warranty issues/ unexplained mechanical failures??? That covers 98% of all vehicles, including bicycles and horses.
Methinks Ron needs an exorcism.![]()
Firstly I think you got it better in Sydney than Melbourne...at least LRA turned up.Originally Posted by Brian Hjelm
Second, I really think that the type of service you get from the dealer all depends on the Dealer....not the car brand. I am on my 7th new car in 10 years so I have a bit of experience with dealers
I have an XR6 and I have been blown away by the great service I get from my local Ford dealer. They have been fantastic and picked up a few problems which I did not even know existed.
I had an Alfa 156 and again the dealer was great with great service.
With the Commodore it was not so good. They were never bad, but treated you like a number and I had to really push to get a couple of things fixed.
With the D1 the service awas all good. It had a number of faults but all were fixed quickly and properly.
With the D2.......well let's just say I don't think my next 4wd will be a Land Rover. I have had nothing but trouble and the dealer will take 2,3,4,5,6 times to fix a simple fault. I think half the problem is that the Disco has been used for "proper 4Wding" and the dealer does not like that. One time I was told that they could not fix a fault with the cruise control under warranty because I had a rear locker installed.

I am sure Toyota are no better than anyone else....but at least if you had one you have a much wider choice of dealers to go to.![]()
Popped into our South of River dealer a few weeks ago to ask about the Defender update to be told "there are none left and the replacement might never happen!!!!!!!! and who knows what the engine might be? Would I like to look at one of the many Discos lined up outside???"Steve
