    A Sticky Idea.

Theres been a few posts of people who are willing to be called on in an emergancy, Im one of them.

How about putting in a sticky, memebers only (sort of like the mudpit) spot where all the numbers and locations of people who arent opposed to coming out and helping stuck landy owners?

Im thinking it should have an Xcel type format covering

base loc, distance willing to travel to assist (kms)/(hrs),usual hours available to assist, contact number, prefered beer.

Along with the usual disclaimers of dont bet your life on it but give it a go, you never know.

It was george130 who got me thinking about this after going out to recover the guy with the dead series.

Only trouble is that it would be open to abuse. Do you really want your contact details available to all 3000 odd member of this place, spammers and telemarketers inclusive?

However on the surface of it, not a bad idea at all.

Great idea ..... A couple of the 4Wd clubs in Melbourne do this I think...... run a sort of recovery service.

Maybe a way round the abuse thing is the ability to send a text message that comes up on the board ..there's nearly always someone on here so help could be mobilised pretty quickly.

Inc could that be done ?

When I was stuck at Ayers Rock with a # spring I called a member who placed a help advert online and I had a call on my mobile within 10min.

Then there was the time I went to help Vogue at Mt Dissappointment. I didn't mind helping, but the recovery, an hour out from Melbourne was a 7 hour round trip. All the recovery was done in the dark and I didn't get home till after midnight.

If people volunteer, they should be aware of the potential commitment in time, fuel and possibly repairing or servicing your recovery gear (or even vehicle) afterward.

As long as people know what they're getting themselves in for by volunteering. If you volunteer to rescue someone and you burn out your winch - are you prepared to wear the cost?

I think it's a good idea, just not one to be rushed into.

Sounds like a good idea. As for the example of burning out a winch If you expect compensation you should warn before using it. But I can understand the frustration of loosing your good gear.
