I can see some other things that need doing (new upper and lower ball joints in the suspension because the rubber boots have split). That job will not be cheap so it might be the time to get rid of it.

Thanks for the offer of help but I think I'll be right. Much appreciated.

Yeah, the lack of heater isn't a problem except for demisting but the aircon will do that. Oh, it could be useful on those days I'm working at Katoomba and it snows.

I might have to wear long pants!

I haven't got the workshop manual with me at work so I can't see if the matrix will come out the end without removing the heater box.. From looking at it this arvo, it might just do that (with some help).

I wonder if Scouse has ever changed one?

I'd like to look at a heater not in a car. I wonder if the P38A at Land Vehicle Spares has a heater in it..

It would be worth checking out, would be a shame to pull it to bits and sell it, other than that and the other bits and pieces you mentioned its not a bad car. Matt

    Hi Ron
Can you get to the matrix without removing it????
If so here is a bush mechanics fix.Go to an aircon shop, get some trace it dye they use and pour it in the cooling system.Go back the next day and get them to put the magic light on it.
You may now know exactly where the leak is,pinch off the effected tubes and fill the core in the effected area with sillycum.
Should stop it or at least slow it to almost nothing till you have the time/inclination/money to do the job properly.

Actually, Chris I was going to grab the bottle of CarGo Metallic Seal Up that I have in the garage and give it a go. It worked well on the slipped liners of my previous engine.

I had correspondence with the manufacturers a couple of years ago as their instructions leave a bit to be desired. The coolant must be flushed out or it will cause the stuff to go jelly-like and not set.

Having looked a the manual, it seems that it's ALMOST possible to remove the matrix without removing the whole fascia/dash assembly. But not quite.
