cats are natural born killers and hunters
when young we used to have avairy next door neighbours cats would kill the budgies and quail through the chicken wire and leave bodies on floor inside the avairy as well as fish out the goldfish from our pond.
next door neighbour couldnt care less about the predatory killing spree of their cats but decided to complain to police when one their cats disappeared after an underwater swimming contest in our pool and the other one had a terminal metal bolt growth through its chest fired from a cross bow.
cats were duly fairly tried and sentenced in my opinion but next door neighbour thought their had been a miscarriage of justice

Yet ironically If the neighbour drowned or shot you, they'd get tried for murder
How anyone gets off from torturing an animal, I do not know.

They say serial killers torture animals as children.

the cats were killed not tortured.
the cats were killed as they constantly came onto our property killing our pets over number of months.
the cats were killed as their owner failed to take responsibility for them or prevent them from doing what they were doing

my opening comments clearly states that my preference is cat owners take responsibility for their pets and install cat runs keeps cat happy, cat owners happy and preserves wildlife and prevents a lot of problems in the neighbourhood.

l notice you haven't posted cannibalism comments to the cat eater recipe posters in this thread

pests are commonly controlled through mass extermination methodology maybe something in what you say about seriel killers wonders if your going to stop buying mortein or other insect sprays in case the mass murderer in you emerges

Well I guess it wouldn't be cannablism considering the cat's aren't eating other cats now would it?

Then perhaps you could explain to my little kids why their beloved cat gets killed whilst sitting on the front yard by some little ****quar who's parents don't care, in fact think it's funny?

You cat haters think it's funny (it's just an cat, a speedhump, just a feral)

Think about the consequences of your actions

For every dead cat there may be a little kids with a broken heart, or an old person who's only companion was their cat, or a manic depressive who's sole companion in the world has just been squashed by a 35inch mud terrain therefore they take their own life.

l never said l was a cat hater, nor am l

l never made comments about killing a cat without having a specific reason to do so or for the fun of it

but besides the 2 cats, l have killed rabbits by the score and foxes until the gun amensty took away my rifles

as dog owner l am required to keep my dog under control on my property to stop it being a pest to my neighbours and as far as l am concerned so should responsible cat owners.

And that just about sums it up - the owners fail to take responsibility for them.

I adore all animals & hate the thought of them being hurt in any way, but by the same token, can see the problems of animals being allowed to roam the streets killing neighbouring animals etc etc etc.

It's the same with the problem of feral cats, foxes etc. I still love them as animals, but they do an awful lot of damage to the native animals. Not their fault they're such good hunters though .... they were introduced & hence the consequences.

Or did someone tell you they're useless so therefore they are, like the toyota v's Land Rover arguement

Prove to me how they're useless, and what a domestic cat has possibly done to you personally for you to come to this conclusion.
Ok fine... Cats have uses, I have not discovered 1...... yet..... I don't care for them anymore after I was savaged by my cat when I was 2, and besides, I HATE TOYOTAS!!!!!

Like Cartm58 said if the owner of a cat was to take responsibility for that cat....and perhaps lock their cat up or put it a cat run thing or put it indoors, then those poor little kiddies, old persons and manic depressives may still be enjoying the company of their cats today!

Look, if a cat is just roaming around, then the cat and the owners need to prepare themselves for the unexpected! That's just lfe.

I am a dog person and would NEVER let my dogs just roam the streets - because i care for their safety (and the safety of others) and anything could happen - same goes with cat owners!!!!

    Personally I'm off mixed minds.

I do like cats - and for the record I would like to say that I've never killed one, intentionally or otherwise - but I just can't stand how much damage they do to the surrounding fauna.

Oh I've heard the argument from my cat-loving father-in-law (and his vet agrees) that cats "only take care of the old and sick, because all the others see them coming and get away". What a load of bollocks!

Apart from the young who can't protect themselves, have they ever sat and watched a cat stalk? I've seen cats with 3 bells on their collar stalk and kill a live healthy bird - all with 1 paw holding the 3 bells quiet! At least with dogs the animals have a chance to get away by climbing / flying up a tree, not so with a cat. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

Amazing animals though, I just wish we had laws in place to control them just as we have to with our dogs

That's what makes cats such amazing animals, to the detriment of the other species!

It never ceases to amuse me the way some of the cats manage to keep the Shepherd (4 times its size) in its place ... yet others he'll push around like there's no tomorrow. Cats have such different personalities!
