I've been thinking about finding a SI to restore, but I think I'll leave it to January before I start looking.
Mind you I've also considered trying to get an Austin 7 or similar![]()
G'day All,
Here are a few pics of my latest aquisition. Series IIA with Series III front guards and grille. 2.6 6 cylinder petrol. It is supposed to have had the diffs, gearbox and engine rebuilt as part of a bare chassis rebuild. I put the Disco rims on to get it home, the tyres on there were all flat and knackered.
What do you think it might be worth?
Cheers,
Jon

Plenty of spares there, Jon! Well done.
Hot where you are, today?
Cheers, GQ
Four Fifths must be about right, I paid less than that!
About 42 degrees today, and yesterday, and the day before... I was in Glendambo (SA) over the weekend, plenty warm down there too (as if I needed an excuse for refreshments at a B&S...).
I doubt they are Series three guards - no heater intake hole. Probably just a late S2a - they had the headlights in the guards from about 1969. The grille though is certainly S3. The S2a grille with headlights in guards was chromed rather than galvanised steel and they rusted, which would explain the change. No idea what it is worth - too dependent on condition, particularly with that engine. If it does have reconditioned engine, then it will be well worth having - there are not too many good sixes about. (mind you, some would say "just as well")Originally Posted by BigJon

That's one of the things I like about this forum! I personally wouldn't have a clue about this sort of thing (although I am trying to edumacate myself), but you can always count on someone being able to come through with the goods!Originally Posted by JDNSW

I agree with you on the guards john - probably a late SIIA - unless just SIII front panels have been fitted - but that is unlikely and there would be a line of rivets on the inner guard to replace the spotwelds.Originally Posted by JDNSW
However you are wrong on the chrome grill - I restored a late model IIA for my father, and it definitely had/has a galvanised grille - as have many others I have seen. Maybe only models with a deluxe bonnet (like in the picture) got a chrome grille?
Either way, looks not too bad - but I personally don't like the 2.6 - goes like a 4, drinks like a V8.
I am not much of a fan of the 6 either. A repower might be on the cards. I have had a suggestion of a Nissan 6 as fitted to Skyline and VL Commodore. I prefer the idea of fitting the 3.5 and LT77 out of my Rangie and finding something better for that.
Hi John - you obviously feel that the series 3 had heater holes in the guards. My series 3 (very early) 88 never had a heater or heater intake holes in the guards and I know they were the original guards. You are obviously far more knowledgable about series landies than me - so why would all series 3 have heater holes.Originally Posted by JDNSW
