As far as I know, anything that does not have a V8 - but the list of banned cars is on the RTA website (although I defy anyone to find anything on that website - I never can) as they keep changing, but basically the list is anything that runs on petrol with eight or more cylinders or a turbocharger - plus anything they feel should be there that was not covered by the general ban.Originally Posted by Mud_Bogger6

Obviously a lot of people think it is important - more than twice the number of both posts and views than any other thread in the current "new posts" page except for the clubs and insect screens - and neither of them have nearly as many posts.Originally Posted by Pedro_The_Swift

Obviously as JDNSW pointed out a great many people do this is an important topic, so why do we let the government keep making (what many of us see) as brain-dead decisions with regards to road rules?
Why aren't we more vocal in what we want to see? Is it because we ourselves can't agree or that we don't see a particular group that would represent us properly?
generally, people feel powerless to stop bureaucratic b/s from happening.Originally Posted by Grizzly_Adams
The NSW RTA's ban certain cars for P platers is absolutely bloody ridiculous, and has been campaigned against by many individuals. Unfortunately the bureaurcrats designed this one and they refuse to back down, and our pollies are too gutless to stand up to them.
Family cars like small, low boost turbo Mercedes Benz's are banned, cars which have so much primary and secondary safety it is staggering, purely because they have a turbo, yet they have a lower power to weight ratio than the average Falcadore. As JD said, V8 Landies are banned, and on it goes. These people are fools, they obviously have no concept of mechanics/engineering/physics and yet they are the ones that are making the rules !
The current knee jerk reaction against P platers, fueled by a certain Sydney daily newspaper in the interests of circulation (cynic, moi ?) and certain 'current affairs' and 'news' shows right royally peeves me no end.
Why is that that the only real solution, driver education is constantly poo pooed or swept under the carpet ?
It works with sex education, most nearly all studies showing unwanted pregnancies, etc dropping with a thorough sex education programme started at a young age, yet defensive driver training is always touted as "merely teaching them to drive faster"
Why can't the powers that be see it teaches drivers to save lives. Can't this be challenged similar to an OH&S issue ?
Can you imagine someone being handed a power tool or a large piece of ag machinery to operate, then not shown how to operate it properly ?
Or a pilot taught how to fly with out basic training like how to side slip or stall recovery as "it will encorage them to behave irresposibly and try it" ?
Work Cover would be all over them like a rash. Why should the RTA get away with inadequate training, seeing as they are the body responsible.
Whatever happened to common sense ?
The polititians and bureaucrats that are anti driver training have their head up their fundamental orrifice a liitle too far for their own good judgement.
It appears to be uncommon sense these days......![]()
