Guys,
How was your weekend???
Mine was Super.
As some of you might know i bought "Grommie" Grey Landy's (henry) old Girl.
The trip started like this.
Friday moring at 7am we left for Sydney, about Euroa the Beasty Twin locked 4.4 County played havoc, it wanted to boil. We stoped at a rest stop and reset the timing and let it cool down and headed off again. 30 mins later there was a loud boom and the windscreen went white...... yep she blew a radiator hose, not a cheap one, but the top hose. it spilt from the thermostat to the radiator.
We took a spare lower hose and cut it up to make the top one with some spare hose and pipe. When we got to Albury we popped into Super crap and bought some hoses and coolant and crap to make a full set. We then made a new top hose from 2 hoses and a pice of exhaust pipe, and set off on the way to Sydney. It was now 2.30pm and 690km to go. the trip was slow from there with the car running at hot all the way, id did not boil or cook, just ran hot.... ambient temp was about 35-38 deg C.
We got to about Goulburn NSW when i heard a tappet noise...... we pulled in for GAS, like every other 200km and found it leaking oil, where from i asked... **** knows.... it was dripping of the front diff and had lost about 1 litre from the engine, but the engine was dry??? go figure??
We filled it up and set off, we got to liverpool and found the M7 and headed up to Terrey Hills where our beds was waiting, We checked in and payed $78 for 12 crownies. Yes we were tired..... 14-15hours on the road. Next morning we woke up (Sat) and drove 15 mins to see Grommet and Henry. We looked it over, went for a Fang and handed over some $$$$$
Note. Dont go into his garage on a hot day, the Air cond condensers for all the units are in the basement. Damn it was hot..... real hot.
We went back to our hotel and i fixed a few faults with Grommet and then gave him a nice oil change with filter.
The pool was beconing, so off i went for a swim... beer in hand.... Nice big resort salt water pool, with JubJub on the rocks sunning himself (lizard).
Dinner was at Henry's place so off we went for Steak, Beer and great conversation. Its nice to talk to others from a different back ground.
We left at about 11pm as we were wrecked.... long days and the beer and sun payed its toll.
Sunday was a great day, sun was out, motel left and we were on our way down the Princess Hwy to Eden, Via Canberra. We wanted to find some bang things to scare the local wildlife or my apprentice....... But due to new ACT laws, it is illegal to sell fireworks from a shop front.
So off to Batemans Bay, then south on the Princes Hwy to Eden. Drive was great, weather was great, Cops were nice......
But did we have a trouble free day??????
Besides the 5 KG of cocain i was carring we had no problems at all..... Sorry wrong trip....
We had no problems except for the return line on the Fender weaping, it was old and perished. I cut part of the Front Diff breather and used it asd the line. Perfect Fit.
We got to Eden about 8pm and stayed in the Eden Caravan park and rolled the swags out. We went into town for Dinner to find the only place open was the Pizza place..... $24 for a large pizza... WTF.... it was crap also.
Monday morning we headed out of town Via the Servo, Gas at $.79cpl. WTF.... Eden is a rip off.... Dont stop there.....EVER....
we drove to Orbost and headed towards home, No problems except the logging truck trying to kill a Hilux and 2 defenders.....
Skippy was kind and let us pass him.... close...
Fuel got cheaper and as did the women......
We saw more cops on the hwy between Orbost and Taralgon than the whole trip put together...
Bretho'ed in Sale and more cops......
We got home about 5pm and unpacked and went to sleep.
Total KM for the County was about 2400km and 600litres of GAS, me about 1400km 140 litres......![]()
