    A question for you Queenslanders

    G'day

Any of you guys or gals ever worked or work for Ergon Energy? I'm thinking of a change of scenery. Whats Rocky like these days?

25 years ago it was the place to insert QLDs enema tube . Someone told me the other day its almost become civilised .

    Whats townsville like?

Last time I was there I was beaten in the park near the hospital over the road from the beach for vagrancy by the local constabulary. Seems falling asleep on the lawn with the paper over your face was a contravention of Jo Bs public behavior legislation or some such BS. Mind you I was 20 so they got a mouthful for their efforts.

Haven't lived in either for about 10 years. Townsville's become pretty civilised. Passed through Rocky not long ago - looked pretty much as it did when I lived there. Unless they've installed citywide A/C within the last couple of months, pay the bit extra and live at Yeppoon. Plus, much closer to Five Rocks for your weekend play outings.

I could be a bit biased here - grew up in the place. Toowoomba's a little cooler than Brisbane, close enough that locals travel to the big smoke (I was commuting daily at one time) but far enough that the crowds stay away. The hastle is it's a long way from the beach. Plenty of trees. Almost a city still more than 1/2 country town despite having 100,000 inhabitants. There's some big electrical infrastructure going in - transmission lines planned and power stations being built west of here.

In short, Toowoomba isn't quite part of Queensland when it comes to climate, but it's a heck of a lot warmer than Tassie. It's friendly but can get small-townish at times. Compared to Rocky, Townsville, I'd drop Rocky unless you live in Yeppoon and commute, Toowoomba is a big town, Townsville is a small city. Townsville is independent, in Toowoomba you travel to Brisbane for the Big Smoke experience - little things like flying interstate.

I gather on the touring and tuff spectrum you tend to touring? I guess it's pretty good out of any of the options you've put up, though the coast is hard to beat really. Did a bit out of Rocky in a Suzuki Sierra, but now I've got kids and long drives to look at rocks don't appeal to them so much. I didn't have a 4wd when I lived in FNQ so you might need to check with the locals up that way. Out of Toowoomba there's a bit of stuff, but it's either private property (4wd parks etc) or longish drives (with kids) for National Parks.

What's that? Being accused of being locked in a time warp by a resident of ALSTONVILLE? Isn't the Age of Aquarius over yet? Don't you need to check whether your mud brick's dissolved in the rain?

    ;-)

Just envious, really. Love your neck of the woods GQ.
