Just for interest's sake, I purchased my first Engel in 1974 and it finally gave-in to old age last year. The unit has seen much of this wonderful country in the back of numerous 4 x 4's without any problems during that time.
I purchased another unit mid last year but not until I sent an email to Engel asking for a warranty replacement item!!! They enjoyed my sense of humour.

I don't think grossly overpriced is very fair when you see how long they last. Mine is over 20 years old and still works beautifully. Sure, they are not cheap, but apart from MudNuts "loud motor" problem I haven't heard of many complaints about them. I'll take a look a Waeco when I need to get another one just to compare, but they'd have to be pretty good to sway me off another Engel.

    Anyway - just my thoughts

Spudboy - Always wanted one of the Refrigeration Research fridges made near you. Loved the front opening style, Saves having a slide! (Think they are called reefer's now???)

    Good luck in your search.

Yes Ladas, I'll be at Wandin for Sunday. I'll make sure to throw it in the back.
    Thanks,

Hey grab that second hand stainless 40L. Apart from looking the goods these models have a square interior without the basket insert. This is the only negative I find with the engel. Makes clening less hassle free.

I picked on up from Engeland Balcatta last month for $1100 with transit bag, its the new model with digi thermometer. I can not even hear it running. Even with the car off. Lucky for the dual batteries as I have left it on for several days without evening noticing.

I have wanted one for years and put off because of the price. I wish now I had one ealier, they are a great product that last. I live in an area that means no dramas off theft so it lives in my car. If I was in the city I would find a system that bolts/ locks it in. That way your using it all the time. Nothing worse I reckon than having a toy and not making full use of it.

They old mans ****ed though. After I abuse his for years he's left with the dented old girl while I have the spanking new!!

It's amazing how often you use it when it is permanently in the car. Our shopping goes in it every week, can do the shopping whenever and don't have to rush home to get it unpacked
