They seem to be a pretty standard price everywhere. Sometimes they through in some accessories though. See if you can get the transit bag

    Engel

Just a word of caution! Before you leave the store have it plugged in, and turned on. Mine is very noisy, and they say it is within normal specs. My last one that was stolen was silent. Get the silent one by the way. Not happy with Engel at the moment. The fridge works fine, but just loud. I can hear it in a Defender while driving!!

    Good luck in your search.

I'm really sorry to read this. It's wrong. After driving a defender for any length of time you shouldn't be able to hear a Engel even when the car is off

Obviously you've talked to them..I've got no idea what you can do ??

Whilst they are a very good product, they are grossly overpriced. This is the end result of having a near monopoly. The 40 litre one cost as much as our two door Westinghouse domestic Fridge/freezer.

shouldnt the new 40 litre ones come with the digital temp guage in the panel on the fridge?

I have an older one, about 5 years old and I have an optional temp guage.

Ah but I think you got the special land Rover Diesel Defender fridge. Its a wonder they did not charge you extra.
The Engels are a great fridge. I have had my 60 litre for about 12 years now and has been fine. Yes they are dear, but comparable with a lot of others on the market. Some of the cheaper ones do not last and have seen a few of the newer plastic ones break. If buget is a real concern have a look at Waeco, but I do not reckon you will still have it in 20 years like you will with an Engel. When (if ever) I get some spare cash I will get a 40 litre to use as a freezer on long trips. A $14 digital thermometer from KMart or Supercheap works a treat as well. Try and get some extras. If you go to a 4wd show etc Engel quite often have a stand and you will get the bits and pieces thrown in.

Without starting the Engel/Waeco war as said above why not compare, even if you are looking at spending X amount of dollars with the Waeco you will no doubt get a larger fridge or fridge/freezer for the same budget, assuming space is not the reason for going with the 40L size.

Although relatively new to the scene Waeco have been building mobile battery powered fridges for boats (marine environmaent is almost as friendly as a 4x4's!) for over 30 years. They also supply almost all the car fridges for luxury car variants. So they are not "new" to designing the equipment nor handling adverse conditions.
