Our house has an old Breezair that works well. Only had to replace the controller a couple of years ago. Its used on the slowest fan speed with enough windows open to make sure there's no pressure buildup. Moisture is only felt if the air can't get out, and its nice not to have static problems (unlike stepping out of the Disco).
Have you tried hanging a small/thin/light peice of chain from your rear bumper, so it just touches the ground when you hit a small bump/undulationQuote:

the other benefit of a evap system is you can run the fan without the cooler operating puts a nice breeze thru the house in the mid 20 temp range.

Our family doc warned us off evep as my wife is a pretty bad asthmatic (how ever it is spelt) and he asked once if we had evap cooling and when we said no he said don't get it as it can trigger attacks.
I don't know how truthful this is or if it translates to other people with the same thing but we got a split system fitted yesterday and I have had the first good sleep for ages as our house holds the heat baddly and it takes about 3 days of cool weather for it to cool down.
Other friends have had evap and it was pretty effective except on the days where the humidity is the killer and then they just go to the beach or for a swim in a pool.
It's free worst comes to worst you will have a box on your roof that adds value to the property as you can say it has ducted cooling.

Plenty of people in Perth have evap cooling. Should work fine in any place with a dry summer (i.e. perth, melbourne, adelaide, etc).
The house we bought has aircon in the bedroom and lounge, but we don't use them because they suck power, and mostly the temperatures are fine (good insulation helps).
Evap might be the go though - anyone have any idea how much a unit costs (supply only), and which brands are recommended???
