I was going to say, that doesn't add up!!
On, and congratulations pops![]()
Well it turns out my 24YO is having a child in July and ive known for a while now but i just cant get used to the idea.
Grandparents are supposed to be settled, old, have free time, eat dinner at 5pm and be at least close to retirement.
I'm 35 have another 30 years on the mortgage, have no spare time, not even close to retirement and my youngest child is 18months old.
Which means the youngest daughter will be an Aunt at 2 years and heaven forbid if i have another child....
Im just not ready yet!
(BTW dont try and do the maths because it doesn't work )
I was going to say, that doesn't add up!!
On, and congratulations pops![]()

You fathered a daughter when you were eleven? Wow!!!
My situation is far worse than yours grumpy...
I have a 9 yo son who is forty years younger than me, those unknown refer to me ashis grandfather.
grrrrr!

Hey Grumpy OB
My wife's young bloke rang me one night and said "G'day. Got a question for you. How would you feel about being a grandfather?" Well I thought about it for a mo, considered a few of the things you mentioned above, then thought "Hmmm WTF can i do about it"
So I asked him the same question, he responded "not much i spose". He said "What do you think mum will say?" I says "Dunno, I'll hand the fone over n we'll find out".
Well that was more fun than me old man runnin over me sister with the ute!!!!!!
I emphathise with you.![]()
As stevo said there is not much you can do about it, I can remember my father in law saying something similar but he was in his late 40's. Just give them both your love and understanding, there is no point lecturing them or giving them a hard time. Think of the positive at least you can palm off all the baby clothes, toys and paraphenalia onto them once your youngest has outgrown them, plus you can get them to babysit for you, (because they have to get used to it).

Fellas, should we take up a collection to buy granny a jumbo-size "Granny's Brag Book" photo album and a quick draw shoulder holster to carry it around in? Any change could go on a pipe and slippers.

NOt to mention a rocking chair![]()
I've got to say the maths is a bit wild. At least your child and grandchild can grow up together![]()
Whatever the maths are, just live with it................
My first daughter is 33, I am 52, my grandaughter is nearly four, my eldest son is 10, my youngest is 5, the mother of my daughter is 50, the mother of my sons is 39.
My youngest was an uncle at 1 -- work with that one
...................and just ensure you enjoy every min you have with kids and grandkids.
My older son married in 2005, both of them in their mid thirties. Among the wedding guests were his wife's eleven year old aunt......
But seriously, grandchildren are well worth having, and I consider myself lucky to have three.
